What you will do

The Volvo Group Customs & Trade is responsible for ensuring compliance with customs rules and regulations and optimizing Volvo Group processes to reduce duty-related costs globally. We are about 100 employees around the world with expertise in Customs regulations. We now need to strengthen the Swedish Customs Compliance team with a Customs Compliance Manager.

In this position, you will act as Volvo’s primary contact towards the Customs authorities; explaining Volvo standards and how we fulfill regulation requirements. You will also take lead or assist in internal/external audits and manage relevant Certifications and Licenses. It is required of you to have deep knowledge of the rules and keep updated on relevant regulations in the responsibility area. You will work closely with other departments and brokers to ensure compliance with customs regulations.

The ideal candidate should have excellent communication skills and be highly self-motivated, taking the initiative to improve processes and procedures. The ability to work independently without direct supervision is essential. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, along with attention to detail, are required to ensure adherence to standards and accuracy of data before passing it on. This role also requires strong networking and relationship-building skills across departments. Professionalism is key, with a direct and forthright approach to people and problems, as well as persistence in achieving goals. A ‘change to stay ahead’ mindset is essential for continuous improvement and innovation.

This is how you could make an impact

  • Secure an adequate level of Compliance Control by performing internal controls and assessments, post control, etc.
  • Customs Broker Management activities such as SOP definition & Broker Controls.
  • Measure compliance levels in operational functions.
  • Maintain accurate record keeping and retention process.
  • Lead/define and follow-up activities to address compliance deviations found.
  • Identify Compliance Risks & Optimization opportunities within responsibility area.
  • Perform customs assessments for all sites to support customs processes improvement and optimization and to find potentials for customs-related savings.
  • Analyze trade/PI data to find improvement areas, and/or to report to management. E.g., Duty relief processes, PIs reported from brokers, etc.
  • Cooperate closely with Master Data Specialists and others to initiate necessary development or implementation of customs processes within the region.

Requirements for the role:

  • Degree in Customs, Logistics, or International Business
  • 3-5 years with Customs, logistics, or compliance experience
  • Proficiency in the English language is required.
  • High level skills on Microsoft applications are beneficial.
  • Expertise in relevant Customs Compliance rulings and regulations on seniority level.
  • Good understanding of the Volvo Group Businesses.
