Dangerous animal diseases can have serious consequences, from suffering in animals and humans to economic losses and disruptions in food supply. The Swedish National Veterinary Institute, SVA, is an expert authority that strengthens Sweden's ability to combat animal diseases that pose threats to critical societal functions through diagnostics, research, and advice. Healthy animals – safe people.

In SVA's work as a central and reference laboratory for veterinary diagnostics, the department of pathology and wildlife diseases is an important link. Animals and animal organs are sent to the department from all over the country for necropsy and/or histopathological examination. The diagnostic work encompasses many animal species. The department also conducts forensic pathological examinations. The department combines traditional and modern biomedical diagnostics with targeted research and development work for faster and safer diagnostics.

The pathology operations are important for monitoring the disease situation in Sweden, and the department has a special mission to oversee the disease situation in the country.

Job Responsibilities

You will work in a team consisting of five biomedical analysts and two other competencies who help and learn from each other. The tasks are varied and include your own dissection, participation in dissections, and preparation of fixed specimens. Daily work includes preparing paraffin and frozen sections for histological examinations, routine and special staining, as well as immunohistochemistry.

Qualifications

We are looking for a licensed biomedical analyst. It is important that you are meticulous, quality-conscious, and take initiative. You enjoy working in a team but can also work independently. You should have good IT skills and command Swedish well in both spoken and written form.

Particular emphasis will be placed on personal qualities, such as being curious, flexible, and efficient. You are interested in the assignment and have good collaboration skills as well as personal maturity.

Meritorious

It is an advantage if you have competence and knowledge in the field of histology and have shown interest and commitment to histopathological work, especially in veterinary medicine.

Conditions

The employment begins with a six-month probationary period.

Through diagnostics, research, and expertise, SVA contributes to good animal health and reduced disease transmission between animals and humans.
