Our Operations

At the Dialysis and Apheresis Unit, we provide highly specialized life-sustaining dialysis treatment to individuals with chronic and acute kidney disease. Each week, approximately 150 individually prescribed dialysis treatments are performed. This entails exciting work where medical technical tasks are integrated into nursing care.

The unit is located in newly renovated premises at entrance 65 of Uppsala University Hospital. In addition to our chronic patients, all inpatient and acutely started dialysis patients come here. Besides hemodialysis treatment, we also perform apheresis treatments and, if necessary, we conduct external treatments in ICU departments and care wards.

The Dialysis and Apheresis Unit is part of the nephrology outpatient care, which involves investigation, care, and treatment of various kidney diseases. Nephrology outpatient care also includes the kidney clinic and Oscar II dialysis clinic, and together we conduct extensive research and development work.

We are open Monday to Saturday, with evening hours until 19:45 on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. We have around 27 employees, including nursing assistants and nurses. The work environment is characterized by a good atmosphere and we have strong collaboration between different professional groups. In addition to doctors, we also have close contact with dietitians, physiotherapists, social workers, and biomedical engineers.

Your Mission

We offer a stimulating job where you become part of a skilled team. During a work shift, nurses and nursing assistants work together to provide patients with their treatment. In your daily work, you as a nurse will have treatment responsibility for 3–4 patients, which includes preparation, initiation, and conclusion of dialysis treatment and continuous monitoring of the patient's vital parameters and well-being. You will have nursing responsibility for 4–5 patients that you regularly round on, and together with the patient and doctor, long-term treatment and care goals will be set. You may also be assigned your own area of responsibility that you can drive and develop.

Your Qualifications

We are looking for a licensed nurse, preferably with a few years of experience in nursing and an interest in learning and developing in the field of nephrology. Experience in dialysis or kidney care is an advantage but not a requirement. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability and quality awareness.

We Offer

We offer a permanent position at 100% in dialysis. We have a well-developed eight-week introduction program for new staff. The introduction is individually tailored, and you will be assigned a mentor. Competence development, both practically and theoretically, will then take place continuously. We have individual scheduling with shifts primarily during the day but with one evening per week and one Saturday every three weeks. Approximately every other month, you will have a scheduled training day for work with your area of responsibility and individual further education.
