About the operation

Clinical Physiology at Sahlgrenska University Hospital is one of the largest units in the country. We have approximately 200 employees, including about 35 specialist doctors and around 10 residents. The university hospital has several national healthcare assignments in areas such as transplantation and cardiac surgery, and we develop methods, conduct research, and teach in collaboration with the University of Gothenburg. By seeing many large patient groups with advanced diseases, you can sharpen your professional skills.

The clinic has five sections - cardiac ultrasound, vascular ultrasound, lung and exercise physiology, nuclear medicine, and pediatric physiology - where most of the approximately 5-year residency training takes place. The clinic has a close collaboration with radiology. The clinic has its own program director. Two section heads share a common leadership for the entire medical group. Each section has a chief physician responsible for method work. Residents and fellows are often involved in method work.

Research and innovation are important parts of the university hospital's daily operations, as well as educational assignments and development. As a resident with us, you will therefore have great opportunities to work with these central tasks within university healthcare and are expected to engage in these areas early in your residency.

What do we offer?

As a resident at Sahlgrenska University Hospital, you will receive a comprehensive supervisor, an educational program that is regularly followed up, and a general and specific introduction to the operation when you start your service. The residency training follows the regulations of the National Board of Health and Welfare. Structured supervision and feedback are included in our residency training organized by the program director. The work includes teamwork and you will be an integrated part of our large educational mission.

You are therefore expected to actively participate in teaching medical students, interns, and healthcare staff from other professional categories. You have set aside time for study half a day per week, as well as time for improvement work, scientific work, and for the courses included in the study plan. The clinic conducts research in cardiology and oncology, and there are good opportunities to participate in this work.

About you

We are looking for a licensed physician with an interest in functional diagnostics. It is an advantage if you have previous experience in physiology. You can make independent decisions but enjoy discussing with colleagues and participating in improvement work. Great emphasis is placed on personal suitability. Upon completion of the residency and transition to specialist physician, the employment continues in an available specialist position at Sahlgrenska University Hospital or in another department in the Västra Götaland Region. Dialogue regarding future placement occurs during the residency period at the annual assessment.
