About us

Operation 1 and 8 is a round-the-clock open unit within the Hybrid and Intervention Operations, HyBI.

HyBI is an operation that largely conducts its activities in the Imaging and Intervention Center, BoIC.

At operations 1 and 8 at Sahlgrenska, highly specialized surgery is performed in the areas of breast, endocrine, upper gastro, vascular, liver surgery, and urology. We also perform kidney, pancreas, and liver transplants as well as advanced spine, tumor, and trauma surgery within orthopedics.

The unit has 14 operating rooms, one of which is specially equipped for trauma, one robot, and two additional hybrid rooms equipped with high-tech equipment with the latest imaging technology where catheterization procedures, either alone or in combination with open surgery, are performed.

With us, operating room nurses and nursing assistants work, and collaboration within the entire surgical team is of utmost importance. We strive for good and safe care where patient safety is the focus. The unit works according to clear routines, method cards, and competency cards to create maximum security for employees in this stimulating, developing, and complex environment. The unit continuously offers internal and external training.

Job responsibilities

The workplace has a large variation between elective and emergency surgery as well as the development of hybrid and robotic procedures.

If you are a newly graduated nurse, you will be part of the Clinical Basic Year, which is our introduction program. The clinical basic year is mandatory and lasts for the first year of your employment with us. The clinical basic year includes lectures, nursing supervision, and practical training of your profession at the Simulator Center. In addition, it also includes service in at least two different departments to broaden your competence.

In the event of recruitment of nurses/doctors with foreign qualifications/specialist certificates, the current position will be preceded by a process to meet the requirements for Swedish qualifications/specialist certificates.
