Thin Film Coating Specialist

INFICON Holding AG is an international group headquartered in Switzerland with over 1,600 employees. The group is a leading manufacturer of vacuum instrumentation. The company in Åland, INFICON Aaland Ab, with about 100 employees, is the group's competence center for the development and manufacturing of ceramic vacuum sensors. The R&D department currently consists of 12 people, and the working language is Swedish. The department's task is to develop and improve products and processes together with colleagues globally.

INFICON Aaland is looking for a Thin Film Coating Specialist to join our development team. Please note that the workplace is in Mariehamn (Åland, Finland), and good knowledge of English, both spoken and written, is required. Knowledge of Swedish is advantageous since everyone at INFICON Aaland speaks Swedish. We are looking for someone who wants to work with exciting technology and have a challenging job with qualified manufacturing processes. Our products undergo many complex and proprietary process steps in vacuum and at high temperatures. Our responsibility ranges from raw materials to finished vacuum sensors.

Your Role:

As a Thin Film Coating Specialist, you will build our internal capacity for PVD coatings (Physical Vapor Deposition). Further material development and process control are also part of your daily work. Additionally, your responsibilities will include our processes for Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD).

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement an internal PVD coating process
  • Oversee and improve existing ALD processes
  • Characterization of coating quality
  • Collaboration with colleagues and suppliers to optimize coating techniques
  • Conduct further research and development of coatings.

Qualifications:

  • A degree in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, or a related field
  • Experience with PVD and/or ALD processes
  • Understanding of thin film coating techniques and equipment
  • Problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Practical and solution-oriented
  • Structured and self-motivated with the ability to drive and coordinate improvement initiatives from start to finish
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
