The group home within LSS on Hövdingavägen will open on March 1, 2025. Our team will consist of two support pedagogues and ten support assistants, of which two work permanent night shifts. The group home is located in Bomhus in a nice residential area.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Are you someone who enjoys working at night and likes to work with people, supporting them based on their individual needs? How exciting! Then we have the job for you! We are looking for support assistants for our group home. Together, we make Gävle meaningful!
In this position, you will work permanent night shifts together with a colleague, meaning that there will always be two support assistants working each night. As a support assistant, your responsibilities include planning, implementing, and following up on work to promote an ethical and humanitarian approach towards clients and ensuring that you work towards the same goals. Plan client-related work based on implementation plans and establish and follow up on routines, job descriptions, and action plans. Pay special attention to clients' independence, participation, and opportunities for communication through various alternative and complementary communication methods. Support should be provided in a way that strengthens the individual's confidence in their own abilities.
The group home is large in size, but only two clients live here. The clients can be challenging and may have difficulty managing their own emotions and reactions. Your ability to meet the client with empathy and respect, regardless of behavior, is of utmost importance. Handling situations with professionalism and compassion is essential.
Together with your colleagues, you will discuss and reflect on professional encounters and approaches to develop, improve, and reach consensus. You are responsible for ensuring that the client receives the support they need based on their needs as described in the implementation plan. You will assist the client with daily tasks, ranging from cooking, cleaning, care, personal hygiene, leisure activities to social and authority contacts. The work involves supporting and developing the individual's communication skills.
The work is planned based on the client's needs, and you should be able to work independently but also together with your colleagues. You will participate and support in all of the client's activities and carry out indoor and outdoor activities. The work includes documenting the individual's development and needs to ensure that the client receives the right support and assistance.
We look forward to welcoming you to our team! The operation is staffed around the clock, day, evening, night, and weekends. All employees in the operation work every other weekend.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are looking for someone with an approved education in the Health and Care Program or the Child and Leisure Program with a focus on social work, or someone with vocational training as a support assistant.
You should have at least one year of experience working with individuals with disabilities within LSS. It is advantageous and highly valued if you have worked with individuals who have acquired brain injuries or have experience with individuals exhibiting outwardly aggressive behavior.
You should have training in clear pedagogical methods. Alternative communication methods (AKK) and the ability to adapt communication to different situations based on individuals' conditions and needs are required. AKK methods such as TEACCH, Support Signs, signs as support, pictograms, and visual aids are mandatory for this position. The work includes maintaining medical and social documentation, which requires a good command of the Swedish language and good computer skills, as documentation is IT-based. It is a requirement that you have or have had medication delegation.
If you also have training in low-arousal approaches, know CPR, and can handle digital tools, it is desirable. It is a merit if you work according to Gävle Municipality's values, focusing on encounters, collaboration, and quality, as well as the municipality's personnel policy - to meet clients with attentiveness and respect.
To succeed in the role of support assistant, you must have the ability to work with others; to listen, show empathy, and respect. You are good at planning and organizing your work and can easily set goals, organize resources, follow up, and complete activities. As a person, you take initiative, are courageous, and have the ability to distinguish between issues and individuals, and you maintain an unpretentious approach in your collaboration with others and recognize and reward others' contributions.
You collaborate well with others and can maintain good relationships, both internally and externally. You adapt to different situations and have the ability to change your perspective and approach. You see opportunities in changes.
