Today's Electricity Prices: Get Paid to Use Electricity

Today, on May 15, 2024, we have seen sensational electricity prices during the early hours of the night and morning. Between midnight and 05:00, electricity prices have been negative, which means that consumers have actually been paid to use electricity.

Electricity Prices During the Night

During the night, electricity prices have ranged from -0.2452 øre/kWh to -0.0584 øre/kWh. This means that if, for example, you charged your electric car during this period, you could have been paid to do so. Here are some examples:

  • A shower (4 kWh) cost -23 øre.
  • A bath (6 kWh) cost -34 øre.
  • Running the dishwasher (1 kWh) cost -8 øre.
  • Charging the electric car (60 kWh) cost -349 øre.
  • Playing games on the computer (0.5 kWh) cost -2 øre.

Electricity Prices During the Day

From 06:00 onwards, electricity prices have risen significantly. The most expensive hour today is between 08:00 and 09:00 when the electricity price is 43.1733 øre/kWh. Here are some examples of costs during the most expensive hour:

  • A shower (4 kWh) costs 173 øre.
  • A bath (6 kWh) costs 259 øre.
  • Running the dishwasher (1 kWh) costs 64 øre.
  • Charging the electric car (60 kWh) costs 2590 øre.
  • Playing games on the computer (0.5 kWh) costs 21 øre.

Tomorrow's Electricity Prices: Expected Variations

Tomorrow, on May 16, 2024, electricity prices are expected to be slightly higher than today's nighttime prices but still relatively low during the early morning hours. Here are some price examples:

  • 00:00-00:59: 3.1057 øre/kWh
  • 01:00-01:59: 3.1874 øre/kWh
  • 02:00-02:59: 3.9230 øre/kWh

Interesting Facts About Electricity Prices

If we had today's lowest electricity price throughout the year, it would cost -1048 SEK to heat a medium-sized house of 160 sqm consuming 18000 kWh of energy over the year. On the other hand, if we had today's highest electricity price throughout the year, it would cost 7771 SEK for the same house.
