New Novus Survey Shows Rise of the Social Democrats

The latest opinion poll from Novus, published on April 23, 2025, indicates a continued rise for the Social Democrats, now reaching 36.70 percent, an increase from 34.60 percent in the previous Novus survey. This marks a significant improvement for the party which earlier in the year was at 34 percent in the Ipsos survey on March 30.

Current Situation of the Parties

The Left Party has slightly declined and now stands at 8.10 percent compared to 8.60 percent in the last Novus survey. The Green Party continues to struggle to surpass 4.60 percent, which is a decrease from 5.30 percent. The Center Party remains stable at 4.30 percent, while the Liberals have slightly fallen to 2.50 percent.

Development of the Right-wing Block

On the other side of the political spectrum, we see that the Moderates have slightly decreased to 19.90 percent from previously 20.30 percent. The Sweden Democrats remain relatively stable at 19.20 percent, which is a marginal decrease from 19.40 percent. The Christian Democrats keep their figures unchanged at 3.20 percent.

Historical Comparisons and Trends

Looking back at previous surveys, the Social Democrats have steadily increased since the turn of the year. In December 2024, they were at 34.40 percent according to Novus, which means an increase of over 2 percentage points up to today's date. This rise can partly be explained by increased confidence in the party's economic policies over the last quarter.

The Moderates and the Sweden Democrats, on the other hand, have shown a weaker development. The Moderates had a peak at 20.70 percent in December 2024 according to Indicator, but have since struggled to maintain that level. The Sweden Democrats, who reached 23.30 percent in Sentio's survey in December, have also seen a decline.

Political Implications

These figures could have significant political implications, especially considering the upcoming election. The increased support for the Social Democrats could strengthen their position in a potential government formation, while the Moderates and the Sweden Democrats need to work harder to regain lost support.

It remains to be seen how the political parties will adjust their strategies to meet voter expectations and whether these trends will continue up to the election.

Conclusion

The latest opinion poll from Novus shows an interesting dynamic within Swedish politics where the Social Democrats seem to have gained an advantage. While some parties struggle to maintain their positions, it appears that the Social Democrats have found a winning strategy to attract voters.
