Tax Changes 2025: How Your Income Will Be Affected

In 2025, several important tax changes will come into effect in Sweden, including adjustments to the job tax deduction, municipal tax rates, and the threshold for state income tax. These changes will impact how much tax you pay and the net salary you receive. Here is a summary of the key changes and how they may affect you.

Enhanced Job Tax Deduction

The job tax deduction is increased to provide more wage earners with a tax reduction. For individuals earning over 16,000 SEK per month, this means lower taxes, with a phase-out for incomes over 40,000 SEK per month. An average wage earner can expect an annual tax reduction of about 2,600 SEK, which is approximately 200 SEK per month.

Increased Threshold for State Income Tax

The threshold at which state income tax begins to be levied is raised from 49,875 SEK to 52,150 SEK per month, or from 598,500 SEK to 625,800 SEK per year. This means fewer individuals will need to pay state income tax in 2025.

Changes in Municipal Tax

Several municipalities and regions have decided to adjust their tax rates for 2025. Here is an overview:

  • Municipalities raising taxes:
    • Övertorneå: +0.75 percentage points
    • Laxå: +0.52 percentage points
    • Vilhelmina: +0.25 percentage points
    • Stockholm: +0.24 percentage points
  • Municipalities lowering taxes:
    • Vara: -0.60 percentage points
    • Ale: -0.50 percentage points
    • Lidingö: -0.50 percentage points

The average municipal tax rate in Sweden for 2025 will be 32.41%. The difference between the highest and lowest municipal tax rates is 6.32 percentage points, with Degerfors at 35.30% and Österåker at 28.98%.

Burial Fee

The burial fee, levied on all taxpayers, will amount to an average of 26.6 öre per hundred SEK for 2025. The exact fee varies depending on the parish or municipality you belong to.
