Stiernhööksgymnasiet is beautifully located by the shore of Lake Siljan and is an upper secondary school with approximately 500 students. It is a unique school with proud traditions and a student body from all over Sweden. The school has a documented high goal achievement rate with very good educational quality. The school offers the Construction and Infrastructure programme, Economics programme, Electricity and Energy programme, Natural Resources programme (with specialisations in animal care, horse keeping, and farming), Natural Science programme, Social Science programme, as well as the four introductory programmes. The school also hosts adapted national programmes for upper secondary school: Forest, Land and Animals, and Property, Construction and Building. Additionally, the school offers National Sports Education (NIU) in equestrian sports and bandy, as well as Local Sports Education (LIU) in various sports. The school has a student boarding house with over 130 beds, as well as food production within the framework of the agricultural education. Parts of the production are served at the municipality’s kitchens. Rättvik therefore has Sweden’s most locally produced school meals.

Job Description

As an Instructor in School Agriculture at Stiernhööksgymnasiet, you will be part of the team within the agricultural education. This role includes all tasks associated with the school farm. Crop farming (grass ley, cereals, and potatoes) is a key part of the work, as well as operating and working with contractor machinery (excavator and loader). The farm is a productive KRAV-certified estate run to serve as an excellent learning environment for agricultural education while simultaneously producing raw materials for the municipality’s kitchens. Farm operations are largely carried out by students with the support of teachers and instructors. As an instructor, you will work closely with the school’s pedagogical staff to provide practical grounding for the teaching. Together, you will turn the farm into a pedagogical learning tool.

Qualifications

You who apply for the position as Instructor in School Agriculture should have upper secondary education in agriculture or equivalent experience. Experience working with young people is preferred, along with a calm and pedagogical approach to letting them learn your trade. You should have experience in crop farming and the use of agricultural machinery. We would appreciate if you have knowledge of and interest in technical equipment and modern farm technology. A professional license for contractor machinery is an advantage. You must be fluent in Swedish both verbally and in writing.

As a person, you take initiative, have a knack for solving problems as they arise, and possess strong collaboration and structuring skills in a flexible daily routine. You also bring energy to a dynamic team. To thrive best in this instructor role, we believe you are curious about meeting young people and eager to explore new developments within the profession.

This is a fixed-term position with irregular working hours, including evenings and weekends during peak season. A probationary period may apply.

According to the Swedish Education Act, a certificate of good conduct (extract from the police record) is required for employment in preschools, schools, and school-age care. The certificate must be presented at any interview stage and can be ordered from polisen.se.
