About the Unit
Do you want a job where you make a difference for many? We hope that you, as a nurse, want to become part of the highly specialized care we are creating together on Ward 138 Vascular Surgery!
Sahlgrenska Vascular Surgery is one of the largest vascular surgical units in the country and consists of a ward, outpatient clinic, research department, and operating room activities. Ward 138 is an acute vascular surgical care ward where we primarily treat patients with carotid stenosis, aortic aneurysm, vascular trauma, or peripheral arterial disease, either after a planned operation or as acute admissions. Approximately 40% of our cases are elective surgery and 60% are acute, meaning the pace can change quickly, and no two days are alike.
We work in a multidisciplinary team consisting of nurses, nursing assistants, doctors, physiotherapists, pharmacy assistants, and medical secretaries.
What do we offer?
Those who start with us receive an introduction tailored to your prior experience and at a pace that suits you, making you feel secure in your work. You will shadow an experienced nurse for four weeks. The induction also includes observing at the outpatient clinic, participating in operations/interventions, and seeing how our vascular surgeons work. We encourage taking university courses and offer regular lectures.
As managers and section leaders, we believe in visible leadership and are therefore very present on the ward. This gives you the opportunity to raise any concerns with us and creates a sense of security. You will also notice that we have a climate where we care for each other and remind each other to take breaks.
Job Responsibilities
As a nurse, you will have an important role on our vascular surgical care ward with advanced pre- and postoperative care. Your tasks include, among other things, ward rounds, medication management, pre- and postoperative assessments and checks, and the medical technical handling of devices such as medication pumps, EDA, CVC, various drains, and VAC pumps.
During day and evening shifts, we work in paired care, where one nurse and one nursing assistant care for seven patients together. At night, two nurses and one nursing assistant work together. We also have a pharmacy assistant and a physiotherapist on the ward to assist in daily work.
About You
You are a licensed nurse or have recently graduated as a nurse. Most importantly, you are curious and eager to learn more about vascular surgery. It is an advantage if you have specialist training in surgery and/or experience working as a nurse.
We believe you are confident in yourself and thrive in a team where job satisfaction, good collaboration, and mutual care are important. You are clear in your communication with patients and colleagues. To achieve this, you need to be able to express yourself well in Swedish, both orally and in writing. Since we have acute operations, unplanned situations often arise, and you should be able to adapt to them, focus on the right things, and reprioritize your work.
We warmly welcome your application!
