GIS Engineer for Kiruna Municipality
Do you want to take the next step in your career and become a key figure in one of Sweden's most spectacular urban development projects?
Kiruna is in the midst of an unprecedented urban transformation – an entire city is being moved and rebuilt from scratch. This involves complex land issues, strategic decision-making, and the opportunity to work on projects that normally only occur once a century. We are now looking for a GIS Engineer who wants to step into a central role and contribute experience, a holistic perspective, and stability as we develop the Kiruna of the future.
Here, you will work closely with decision-makers, influence long-term urban development issues, and help lead projects that will leave a mark for generations to come. If you are looking for major challenges and the opportunity to be involved in the planning and implementation of a societal transformation, then Kiruna is the place where your skills truly make a difference.
Why Kiruna?
Kiruna offers something that few other locations in Sweden can match:
- One of the country's most extensive urban development projects
- Stunning surroundings – from midnight sun and northern lights to mountains, nature, and outdoor life
- Space, proximity, and balance – distances are short and everyday life is simpler here
About the Role
As a GIS Engineer with us, you will play a vital role in our societal planning process by managing, developing, and making geographic information accessible to support decision-making, planning, and operational development. You will work in close collaboration with colleagues within our group and contribute digital solutions and data that create value for both the municipality and its residents. Your responsibilities include:
- Managing and developing the municipality's GIS data, databases, and geodata services.
- Participating in the development of digital workflows and geodata-related processes.
- Supporting operations with GIS analyses and geographic decision-support materials.
- Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders within geodata, societal planning, and infrastructure.
The role involves varied work where you combine technical competence with operational understanding and problem-solving. You will collaborate closely with other specialists in societal planning and have the opportunity to contribute to projects that shape the municipality's future. With us, you will become part of an engaged urban planning department with short decision-making paths, significant personal responsibility, and good opportunities to influence and develop both work methods and operations.
Who Are We Looking For?
We are looking for someone who is confident, experienced, and curious – someone accustomed to working with GIS systems and geodata:
- Relevant university education, e.g., in GIS.
- Documented experience working with GIS systems and geodata.
- Experience collaborating with multiple stakeholders and building trusting relationships.
- Ability to work independently, structured, and solution-oriented.
Previous experience working in a politically governed organization is considered an advantage.
What We Offer
- Meaningful work where you influence the development of an entirely new city.
- A pleasant work environment with engaged colleagues.
- Good balance between work and leisure.
- Free gym membership up to 5,000 SEK/year.
- Access to the municipality's mountain cabins.
- Opportunity for salary exchange for additional days off.
- An inclusive work climate where respect, responsibility, and collaboration are key values.
Do you want to help shape the next chapter in Kiruna's history?
Apply now – and welcome to a workplace where your work truly makes a difference.
