Urban Planning Architect for Kiruna Municipality
Are you ready to take the next step in your career and become a key figure in one of Sweden's most spectacular urban development projects?
Kiruna is in the midst of an unprecedented urban transformation – an entire city is being relocated and rebuilt. This involves complex land issues, strategic decision-making, and the opportunity to work on projects that normally only occur once a century. We are now looking for two urban planning architects who want to step into a central role and contribute with experience, a holistic perspective, and stability as we develop the Kiruna of the future.
Here you will work closely with decision-makers, influence long-term urban development issues, and help lead projects that will leave a mark far into the future. If you are looking for major challenges and the opportunity to be involved in the planning and implementation of a societal transformation, then Kiruna is the place where your skills truly make a difference.
Why Kiruna?
Kiruna offers something that few other places in Sweden can match:
- One of the country's most extensive urban development projects
- Stunning surroundings – from the midnight sun and northern lights to mountains, nature, and outdoor life
- Space, proximity, and balance – distances are short and everyday life is simpler here
About the role
As an urban planning architect with us, you will have the opportunity to shape the municipality's future by contributing to urban transformation, societal development, and sustainable planning. You will work on:
- Driving and coordinating detailed planning work from concept to implementation.
- Preparing planning materials, investigations, and decision-support documents.
- Commissioning, coordinating, and following up on consultancy assignments.
- Contributing to the municipality's urban development and relocation projects.
- Collaborating with colleagues, authorities, consultants, businesses, and the public.
With us, you will become part of an engaged urban planning department where collaboration, development, and innovation are in focus. We offer short decision-making paths, significant personal responsibility, and the opportunity to work on projects that make a real difference for the municipality's future.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for someone who is confident, experienced, and curious – someone accustomed to driving planning processes and who wants to continue developing.
We believe you have:
- Relevant higher education, e.g., in physical planning, societal planning, architecture, or similar
- Documented experience in detailed planning work
- Good ability to apply legislation within PBL (Planning and Building Act) and MB (Environmental Code)
- Experience collaborating with many stakeholders and building trusting relationships
- Ability to work independently, structured, and solution-oriented
If you have previously worked in a politically governed organization, we view this as an advantage.
What we offer
- Meaningful work where you influence the development of an entirely new city
- A pleasant work environment with engaged colleagues
- Good balance between work and leisure
- Free gym membership up to 5,000 SEK/year
- Access to the municipality's mountain cabins
- Opportunity for salary exchange into extra days off
- An inclusive work climate where respect, responsibility, and collaboration are key words
Do you want to be part of shaping the next chapter in Kiruna's history?
Apply today – and welcome to a workplace where your work truly makes a difference.
