The County Administrative Board is an expert authority in areas such as nature and environment, community planning and rural affairs, directly subordinate to the Government. We act as a link between people, municipalities, regions, and various authorities. We work to ensure that national goals are implemented in the county. We do this by looking at the whole picture in our authority's operations, by disseminating knowledge, and by coordinating and developing various substantive issues. The Unit for Animal Welfare and Veterinary Affairs is part of the Rural Affairs Division at the County Administrative Board of Södermanland County. Within the unit, we work on issues concerning the health of animals and humans. The unit is responsible for controlling that farm animals and pets are cared for in accordance with the requirements of the Animal Welfare Act. The unit is also responsible for food and feed controls of primary producers, pre-approval of stable buildings, matters concerning supervision of dogs and cats, infectious disease protection issues, and other veterinary tasks.

Job Responsibilities

As a case handler at the Unit for Animal Welfare and Veterinary Affairs, you will work with:

  • Processing and control of operations involving horses, dogs, cats, and other pets.
  • Inspection of animal transports, control of game enclosures, planned controls of farm animals.
  • Receiving reports of animal neglect and conducting investigations and controls in reported cases.
  • Handling referrals from the police and executing decisions regarding takeovers.
  • Environmental scanning on issues related to our operations with the aim of developing and improving internal processes.
  • Processing cases concerning supervision of dogs and cats.

Qualifications and Profile

We are looking for you who have:

  • A university degree in agronomy, ethology, or environmental and health inspector. Alternatively, other education that the employer assesses as equivalent.
  • Good knowledge of relevant legislation and the risks to animal welfare in different forms of animal husbandry.
  • Good knowledge of the Office package.
  • Good communication skills and good knowledge of Swedish in both speech and writing.
  • A B driving license.

It is meritorious if you have:

  • Previous experience in case processing and experience of working independently with control/supervision within the County Administrative Board, another state authority, or municipality.
  • Experience in processing cases concerning supervision of dogs and cats.
  • Experience in pre-approval of animal stables.
  • Knowledge of the systems Platina and DSK.
  • Practical experience of working with animals.

  • Are meticulous and take independent responsibility for administering and structuring your own work.
  • Enjoy being part of a work group while also being very good at working independently.

About the Position

The employment is a fixed-term appointment until April 9, 2027. Start date is as soon as possible or by agreement.

All positions at the County Administrative Board may be subject to security checks and military placement depending on the nature of the assignment.

The salary range for the current position is: 34,000–45,000 SEK/month.
