to apply for the job
Are you a person with good experience of nature and the environment? Do you also have good experience in management work, predators, and extensive field experience? Are you a team player who can also work independently? Then you might be the person we are looking for!
As an employee here, you are a vital part of the work to manage and develop the nature values in our region. Your work contributes directly to preserving and strengthening biodiversity, ecosystem services, and the unique natural environments found in Norrbotten.
You will belong to the Field Unit, which is part of the operational activities at the Norrbotten County Administrative Board. The Field Unit's main task is to manage protected animals and nature areas, and to ensure compliance with laws and regulations. The work includes inventories of predators, care and maintenance of nature types, facilities, and trails, information campaigns, and combating invasive alien species.
About the job
Your working hours are spent primarily in the field. Some parts of the work are done independently, but to a large extent, you will work in a team or patrol with one or more colleagues. You plan your work together with your colleagues. Field operations take place year-round and can be demanding in both summer and winter environments. As a nature warden, you are a team player who works closely with responsible case handlers to document in the field and carry out planned or emergent measures to ensure compliance with current management plans.
In your work, you will participate in protected hunting decisions, perform supervision, and maintain national parks, nature reserves, and the state trail system. This involves both construction work and nature type maintenance, as well as planning these measures. You will also work with documentation and reporting on completed work. We expect you to have experience working with digital tools and equipment.
The job involves significant travel to geographically remote areas. The Field Unit has the entire county as its workplace, which means overnight stays are common.
You will also have contact and collaboration with Sami reindeer herding communities regarding issues related to the unit's tasks.
The Field Unit is involved in many of the agency's action projects, where you will also become part of the operations.
The Field Unit also has an extensive supervisory mandate regarding:
- Compliance with regulations in protected areas (national parks, nature reserves).
- Off-road driving in prohibition and regulation areas, and above the cultivation limit.
- Illegal hunting of large predators.
The work is constantly evolving, and tasks may change over time based on our mandate. Therefore, you must be able to handle change. This simultaneously gives you opportunities to develop, broaden, and deepen your competence with us.
About you
We are looking for you who:
- Have suitable professional experience for the tasks.
- Have good physical fitness and experience traveling in forests and mountains under various weather conditions and throughout all seasons.
- Have good knowledge of animals, nature, and life in nature.
- Have good computer skills and are open to new operational support systems.
- Can express yourself elegantly, simply, and clearly, both verbally and in writing.
- Have good experience with off-road driving (snowmobile/ATV), hold at least a B-driver's license, and have a snowmobile operator's certificate.
We are looking for you who, with a non-hierarchical attitude, are self-motivated, driven, and responsible. We want you to be able to take initiative, adapt to new working methods, and plan the execution of tasks together with colleagues or independently.
You will have contact with many members of the public, which is why we place great emphasis on social competence, judgment, and communication skills.
You will often handle sensitive information, so high integrity is important.
Advantages if you have:
- Knowledge of zoology, ecology, and large predators; upper secondary education or post-secondary studies in ecological, biological, or forestry subjects, or other relevant work experience that the employer deems equivalent.
- Knowledge of reindeer herding conditions.
- Documented experience moving in high-alpine environments in winter.
- Experience with public sector work.
- Experience or training certificate in handling motorized manual tools.
Personal qualities are important to us. We consider it a given that you contribute positively to our work environment and job satisfaction, and act in accordance with the public sector's values.
Good to know
We use a six-month probationary period.
If you are called for an interview, you may be asked to complete a work sample test.
Since some jobs with us require security clearance, you may be asked to undergo a security check before employment. This includes a security clearance interview and register control. For some positions, Swedish citizenship is required.
