Do you want to make a difference?
19,916 students failed to complete compulsory school in Sweden during the 2023/2024 academic year. In some schools, 7 out of 10 students do not qualify for upper secondary education. At the non-profit foundation Läxhjälpen (Homework Help), you contribute your skills and commitment to help more students meet the eligibility requirements with confidence for their future.
We are now looking for new homework helpers in Stockholm!
We are looking for you who are interested in a paid part-time job while simultaneously making a concrete social contribution. The position is an hourly employment during afternoons/evenings, essentially serving as a homework helper after school hours at one of our partner schools. Here, you work in a team of three homework helpers, all of whom are university students. You receive training in and work according to our structured approach. Each homework help group consists of 15 students, and together with your colleagues, you are responsible for planning, implementing, and following up on the work.
As a homework helper, you can work either as a regular helper or as a substitute. As a regular homework helper, you work 6 hours per week, distributed over two scheduled afternoons/evenings (possibility for extra shifts exists). As a substitute, you work when regular helpers are on leave or sick. The work is performed after school hours in the school's premises.
Who are we looking for?
- Are a university or college student.
- Have pedagogical skills and can communicate and build relationships with children and young people.
- Are solution-oriented, proactive, and able to work according to our structured approach and methods.
- Have broad basic subject knowledge and good study techniques.
- Share Läxhjälpen Foundation's values and vision of a society where all children grow up with the prerequisites to succeed in school and shape their own future.
Since the job involves working with children, we place great emphasis on personal suitability. Providing a certificate of good conduct (police record extract) to the employer is a statutory requirement for working with children and young people.
Why Läxhjälpen?
Differences between schools, where you live, where you come from, and what your parents do increasingly determine the likelihood of you succeeding in school. Läxhjälpen Foundation is a non-profit organization that operates where it is needed most. Homework help is free for the students, and the helpers' salaries are funded through support from the business sector and the public sector.
Läxhjälpen is a concrete effort addressing one of Sweden's biggest problems today: more and more young people are failing school and risking being excluded from society. Carefully selected, paid university students help young people with their studies two evenings a week and serve as positive role models and mentors. Since our founding in 2007, we have developed a structured approach and a clear goal – grades should improve, and students should progress to upper secondary education.
We are currently present in over 100 schools in cities including Stockholm, Södertälje, Västerås, Norrköping, Gothenburg, Landskrona, Umeå, Sundsvall, Uppsala, Gävle, and Malmö.
