Company Description
Vattenfall is one of Europe's largest producers and retailers of electricity and heat. Our main markets are Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, and the United Kingdom. The Vattenfall Group employs approximately 21,000 people. For over a hundred years, we have electrified industries, delivered energy to homes, and transformed lives through innovation.
About the Role
Vattenfall is looking for a Group Civil Defence Officer to join Corporate Security & Resilience. We offer an interesting role in an international environment within a company striving to enable a fossil-free life.
Vattenfall views security and resilience as central components of a sustainable energy company. Protecting our assets is crucial for maintaining the trust of our customers, employees, and suppliers. Effective management of security and resilience risks is part of the core of our way of working.
Corporate Security & Resilience strives to be a modern, flexible, and agile function operating in a challenging and rapidly changing external environment. Knowledge of emerging threats and a continuous need to develop and adapt security work are in focus.
The function's main task is to provide governance and operational support throughout the Vattenfall Group to ensure risk reduction related to security and resilience, as well as compliance with relevant regulations in the countries where we operate.
The role of Group Civil Defence Officer is a key position for developing security and resilience within Vattenfall. It is part of a team of approximately 10 people reporting to the Director Security & Resilience.
The role entails responsibility for:
- Supporting civil defence work at the Business Area (BA), Business Unit (BU), and Staff Function (SF) levels, including but not limited to training, exercises, contingency planning, capability development, supply readiness, and wartime organization.
- Leading and coordinating civil defence work at the group level when it involves multiple BAs/BUs/SFs.
- Building awareness and competence across the entire Vattenfall Group regarding why and how civil defence is important for operations.
- Participating in training and exercise activities for the benefit of the entire Vattenfall Group.
- Developing and managing governance, processes, and guidelines related to civil defence.
Furthermore, the role involves:
- Actively driving collaboration with relevant authorities in Sweden, particularly within the energy sector.
- Monitoring developments in the field of civil defence, maintaining external contacts (e.g., regarding best practices), and ensuring relevant adaptation within Vattenfall.
- Ensuring that civil defence work is coordinated with other areas within security and resilience, such as crisis management, business continuity management (BCM), physical security, information and cyber security, and security protection. We work particularly with an integrated resilience perspective, meaning unified structures for crisis management regardless of the external situation and a continuity management that also covers heightened readiness and war.
Requirements
We are looking for an experienced colleague who engages relevant stakeholders and contributes to finding the best possible solutions. Very good communication skills and strong self-drive are crucial success factors in the role.
The candidate we are looking for likely meets the following criteria:
- Very good knowledge of civil defence and/or related areas within security and resilience.
- Experience in security work in environments with many stakeholders.
- Relevant academic degree (at least bachelor's level).
- At least 5 years of experience in relevant roles.
- Very good command of Swedish and the group language English, both spoken and written.
- Good knowledge of the EU and NATO, as well as their requirements for the energy sector.
- Knowledge of Swedish total defence legislation and other relevant regulations such as NIS2, CER, and security protection legislation.
We see that you are structured, analytical, receptive, and have good judgment. You have a good understanding of the societal and organizational challenges associated with civil defence and strive to find viable paths forward.
You have very good communication skills, high integrity, and can focus on what is most important for Vattenfall. You build trust, inspire others, and create engagement at all levels in an international organization. The ability to drive change is very important, and you likely have documented experience in leadership and/or managerial roles.
