Do you want a meaningful and varied assignment where you make a real difference every day? Here, you work closely with students with diverse needs in an engaged team where collaboration, creativity, and development are in focus. Here, relationships, small progress, and shared successes are a natural part of everyday life. We look forward to your application!

Östra Stenhagen Special School is a municipal special school in Uppsala for students in grades 1-6 (our students with multiple disabilities attend our school up to grade 9). The school is located in the Stenhagen district in pleasant premises surrounded by green areas, walking paths, and playgrounds. We work from a holistic perspective where safety, communication, and student development are in focus. The operations are characterized by adapted teaching methods and support that promote student participation, learning, and the desire to develop. The school shares some common spaces with Östra Stenhagen Primary School and has a lively after-school center with activities such as movement, creativity, and social interaction in both indoor and outdoor environments.

Description of Duties

As a student assistant at our special school, you work closely with students with a very varied range of needs. You are a support for the students' learning, development, and well-being during the school day and after-school activities, in collaboration with teachers and other staff.

The assignment involves:

  • providing individually adapted support in teaching, care, and social contexts
  • contributing to structure, safety, and predictability in the students' daily lives
  • supporting communication, participation, and independence based on each student's prerequisites, including good contact with guardians
  • actively participating in the planning and implementation of pedagogical and social activities
  • working relationally and with low-affective approaches in meetings with students.

It may involve:

  • work with assistive devices involving lifting
  • support related to care, such as diaper changing.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have education as a student assistant, childcare worker, youth leader, or other pedagogical education that the employer considers relevant for the position. To succeed in the work, you need to have experience working in special schools, special needs schools, or similar operations. We see that you have experience working with students with intellectual disabilities, ADHD/Autism (NPF), and/or extensive support needs. You also need to have experience with alternative and augmentative communication (AAC), for example, picture support or sign language as support. The work requires that you have good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written, as well as knowledge of low-affective approaches.

You are secure, stable, and have good self-insight, which enables you to adapt your approach to the situation and the student's needs. Furthermore, you have good collaboration skills, are responsive, communicate clearly, and contribute to a positive collaboration climate where you together support the students' development.
