We are now looking for an engaged and confident Unit Manager for the Nature and Water Permitting Unit at the County Administrative Board of Västmanland. Responsibilities

As Unit Manager, you are responsible for leading, developing, and monitoring the unit's operations. You have responsibility for operations, personnel, and the budget, and you work to create good conditions for employees to succeed in their assignments. The role involves leading a team of qualified case handlers who work with permitting and supervision.

As a manager, you actively work with prioritization, creating structure, and managing and strengthening good working methods. You drive the development of working methods when needed. You promote a good work environment and an open, trust-based collaborative climate. The assignment involves many contact surfaces both internally and externally, for example with operators, municipalities, and other authorities.

You are part of the department's management group, where you contribute a holistic perspective and the development of the entire department's operations.

About the Workplace

The Nature and Water Permitting Unit works with permitting and supervision within both nature conservation and water, based on the Environmental Code, for example, species protection, consultations, water operations, and water protection areas. The unit's area of responsibility also includes nature conservation grants and invasive species. The unit currently consists of 10 employees with broad specialist knowledge and strong commitment. The operations are characterized by collaboration, high professionalism, and a shared responsibility for driving the work forward.

The County Administrative Board's premises are centrally located, near the train station, in Västerås.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have:

• Relevant academic education in, for example, biology, law, environmental science, or other equivalent education/experience.
• Experience in managerial or leadership roles with personnel, operational, and budgetary responsibility.
• Experience working in the public sector and experience working based on the Environmental Code.

We prefer that you have worked in the state sector and have experience working with authority enforcement.
