to apply for the job
Do you want to contribute to a sustainable Gävleborg? Then the County Administrative Board of Gävleborg is the workplace for you.
We are now looking for a substitute on 50% for the Nature Protection Unit. As a case officer within area protection, you will handle issues primarily within the aquatic area.
Take the chance to apply for a fun and developing job!
At the Nature Division, we have three units: the Wildlife Unit, the Nature Protection Unit, and the Management Unit. We work with tasks related to the establishment of nature reserves, management of protected areas, permitting and supervision, cormorant management, outdoor recreation issues, the right of public access, hunting decisions, moose management, and inventory of large predators. In total, we are about 50 people. We are located in Gävle, Gysinge, and Ljusdal.
About the job
In the role of case officer within area protection, you will be part of a working group that collaborates to create protected areas with high nature values. It is a priority to start implementing the guidelines for identifying valuable waters in limnic environments, the so-called VäVa process. This primarily means collecting and compiling data, including quality assurance, from existing material such as inventories and GIS data, as well as conducting some inventories to update information about valuable waters in Gävleborg.
You will also, to a lesser extent, work with the establishment process for new nature reserves, including all the tasks involved in this, such as assessing what management is suitable for the area, planning for outdoor recreation and/or prohibition areas, submitting decisions for internal and external review, creating maps in GIS, working in DINO, prioritizing between areas, and writing decisions and management plans. It also includes having regular contact with the major forestry companies, the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management, the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, and the county's municipalities.
About you
We are looking for you who:
- have a university education in biology.
- have knowledge of marine biology or limnology.
- have experience from authority work regarding nature conservation.
- have good knowledge and understanding of how aquatic water environments function.
- have experience working with Valuable Waters.
- have skills in GIS.
- speak and write Swedish fluently.
- have a B driving license.
Merits:
- Experience working with area protection.
- Knowledge of watercourse restoration.
- Knowledge of the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency's DINO system.
- Knowledge of lakes and watercourses, preferably with a focus on Gävleborg County.
- Knowledge of the national strategy for the protection of lake and watercourse environments with high nature and cultural values.
- Good species and habitat knowledge.
- Accustomed to working with problem-solving tasks.
- Experience in information work.
To succeed in the role, you should be an independent person who can work in a goal-oriented and structured manner and is good at completing tasks. You are a person who engages, creates involvement, and looks to the best interests of the operations. Since the work involves many contacts with state and municipal authorities, consultants, and operators, it requires that you have good organizational and collaborative skills and that you enjoy collaborating in different contexts. The work presupposes that you are good at communicating orally and in writing. We place great importance on your personal qualities.
Since this is a short-term substitute position, experience is an important prerequisite for quickly getting into the work and contributing from the start.
Do you want to influence the future in Gävleborg and be part of us? Welcome with your application by June 29.
