Stockholm – our capital city of millions of dreams, expectations, and ambitions. We work for everyone who lives here today and in the future. We are now looking for you who want to think big, new, and different with us – for the people of Stockholm.
The Traffic Office is responsible for managing and developing Stockholm's public spaces to ensure they are safe, attractive, accessible, and sustainable. The assignment covers everything from caring for the existing urban environment to implementing strategic investment projects and planning for tomorrow's growing metropolis. To fulfill our mission, we consist of approximately 500 colleagues, primarily located in the newly renovated premises of the Technical Council House on Kungsholmen. Together, we ensure that Stockholm continues to be a leading city with sustainable transport solutions and vibrant environments, both today and in the future.
Welcome to us
The Street Operations Unit is responsible for street cleaning and winter road maintenance of the city's street surfaces. We currently consist of a unit manager, operations engineers, operations coordinators, and business managers. We are responsible for planning, specifying requirements, and monitoring operations within public spaces as regulated by operation contracts. As a client organization, our operations are outsourced to contractors, which requires collaboration both externally and internally. The work is highly outward-facing and involves daily contact with contractors, other departments, operations, and citizens. At the Street Operations Unit, we value knowledge, engagement, respect, and collaboration.
Do you want to work for an attractive, safe, and accessible Stockholm together with dedicated and knowledgeable colleagues? As part of our development, we now have the need to recruit two driven street operations engineers who want to contribute to the public space with the people of Stockholm in focus!
We offer
A workplace where we help and support each other in daily work and value a good, open, and accessible work environment. You are given the opportunity for personal development and competence enhancement, as well as participation and influence in the workplace. Our workplace is centrally located in the Technical Council House on Kungsholmen, just a few minutes' walk from the Central Station. In addition, we offer good employment benefits such as a fitness allowance, fitness hour, the opportunity to participate in fitness activities, flexible working hours, holiday exchange, and the possibility to work from home two days a week if the work allows. Please read about our benefits within Stockholm City here.
Your role
In the role of Street Operations Engineer, you work together with your colleagues as the client for daily operations within one or several contract areas. You maintain ongoing dialogue with the contractor regarding how the work progresses, and together with colleagues, you follow up on the contractor's work. This includes, among other things, representing the office at meetings with the contractor, either alone or with colleagues, reviewing and following up on the contractor's work both in the urban environment and in the office, handling cases in the city's systems, performing practical checks in the urban environment, etc. Furthermore, you handle orders within the framework of your delegation and within budget limits for the contract area.
In addition to working in the client role, the assignment involves much collaboration and dialogue both within the administration and with external parties, such as boroughs, other departments, and citizens. The role also includes driving own projects related to operational issues and, as expert support (from an operational perspective), participating in various external projects, reviews, and procurements.
Your competence and experience
We are looking for you who have:
- A university education in a relevant field, such as an engineering degree or other post-secondary education that the employer considers equivalent.
- At least three years of work experience in a similar professional field.
- Experience of budget responsibility or experience of financial monitoring.
- Experience of contract follow-up/compliance.
- Good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in Swedish.
- A valid driver's license (Category B).
It is meritorious if you have:
- Experience of operation or maintenance of street surfaces.
- Experience working in a politically governed organization.
To succeed in the role, it is important that you take responsibility for your work and drive it forward by planning and prioritizing work efficiently. You are receptive and have good collaboration skills. It is also important that you can handle issues at a detailed level but still see the significance for the whole. You understand your role and look to the best interests of the entire operation in actions and decisions. You thrive working towards goals and focusing on results. In this recruitment, we will place great emphasis on your personal qualities, motivation, and commitment to the assignment.
Stockholm City works with competence-based recruitment aimed at assessing each person's competence and thereby combating discrimination.
