Action Coordinator for Water – Älmhult Municipality

We are looking for an engaged and structured Action Coordinator for Water who wants to contribute to improving the water environment and achieving the goals of the EU Water Framework Directive. Are you our new colleague?

The Helgeå catchment area is one of the largest in southern Sweden, spanning 13 municipalities in Skåne, Kronoberg, and Jönköping counties. The northern parts of the catchment area consist mainly of forest and peatland, while agricultural land dominates the southern parts, which also host large wetland areas with high nature values.

Your workplace will be at the Community Planning Department in Älmhult Municipality. The department is responsible for overall planning, detailed planning, sustainability issues, GIS, land and development issues, as well as the implementation of development projects.

Job Responsibilities

In this role, you will work closely with municipalities, landowners, authorities, businesses, and other stakeholders to initiate, coordinate, and drive actions that improve the ecological and chemical status of lakes, watercourses, and coastal waters.

As an Action Coordinator for Water, you will:

  • Coordinate and drive action work within the Helgeå catchment area
  • Initiate, plan, and follow up on water protection measures
  • Support landowners and other stakeholders in action processes and grant applications
  • Act as a link between local stakeholders, authorities, and project organizations
  • Participate in or lead meetings, workshops, and collaboration processes
  • Contribute to monitoring, reporting, and knowledge dissemination
  • Monitor the external environment regarding water management, policy instruments, and funding opportunities

Qualifications

We are looking for you with a strong commitment to water and environmental issues, who thrives in a role where collaboration and dialogue are central. To succeed in the role, you work independently, are structured in your approach, and are good at finding solutions.

You have an academic education in environmental science, biology, water resource management, or another direction that the employer deems relevant. We want you to have good knowledge of water management, the Water Framework Directive, and environmental quality standards. Experience in coordination, project management, or work with environmental measures is also required.

Experience working as an action coordinator or in a similar role is meritorious, as is experience with LOVA, LONA, or other environmental grants. Knowledge of the impact of agriculture and forestry on water is meritorious. Familiarity with GIS and water-related databases, such as VISS, is an advantage.

You are good at communicating and can express yourself well in both speech and writing in Swedish and English, and you find it easy to collaborate with different target groups you encounter in your work. You must have a valid B-class driver's license to easily navigate the catchment area when needed.

Employment type: Fixed-term employment.
Duration: 6 months or longer.
