Job Description
As the foreman in the milking parlor, you are responsible for the daily operations of milk production, as well as leading staff and students in the stable environment. The role combines practical agricultural work with pedagogical responsibility, where you mentor and coach students in their learning.
Main Responsibilities
- Lead and distribute daily work in the milking parlor
- Ensure good animal husbandry according to current legislation and routines
- Responsible for milking, feeding, care, and supervision of dairy cows and youngstock
- Monitor animal health, identify deviations, and take action
- Handle calving and care of newborn calves
- Ensure that the stable, milking equipment, and other areas are clean and functioning well
- Plan and coordinate grazing and animal movements
Pedagogical Responsibility
- Mentor, instruct, and coach students in daily work
- Create a safe and learning-friendly environment in the stable
- Adapt mentoring to the student's knowledge level
- Show patience and be a good role model in work methods and interaction
- Ensure that work is performed safely and according to the education's goals
Staff Management and Planning
- Lead staff and coordinate work together with students
- Plan staffing and work distribution, including weekend work
- Introduce new employees and students to routines and safety regulations
Administration and Reporting
- Compile materials for invoicing according to the organization's routines
- Document deviations, incidents, and need for actions
- Maintain ongoing dialogue with the nearest manager regarding operations, staffing, and development needs
- Make minor purchases and orders of feed and consumables
- Document production, animal health, and daily events
- Report deviations, operational status, and development needs to the nearest manager
- Contribute to the follow-up of operations
Other
- Contribute to a good working environment and positive collaboration
- Follow routines for working environment, infection control, and safety
- Participate in the development of operations and education
- The position involves working according to a schedule where weekend work may occur
About the Workplace
Munkagårdsgymnasiet is a small high school offering only the Natural Resource Program. Our specializations are animal care, agriculture, nature tourism, and forestry. We also have an adaptation of the natural resource program for students with an NPF diagnosis called "Spåret." There we offer the specializations animal care, agriculture, and gardening.
We have approximately 120 staff members and 300 students. The school also has a boarding school where about two-thirds of the students live Monday to Friday. The boarding school is located in a lovely environment in Tvååker, about 1 km from the school.
Qualifications
A requirement is previous experience working with dairy cows and familiarity with the tasks that occur in a stable. You have a good ability to lead and distribute work in a structured and efficient manner, while also enjoying taking responsibility and being able to work independently when the situation requires it.
You have a genuine interest in working with young people and education, and possess good pedagogical skills. It is important that you feel confident in mentoring, instructing, and supporting others in their learning. As a person, you are patient, responsible, and have an easy time collaborating with both colleagues and students. You also have good knowledge of animal welfare and safe animal handling, and always work with a focus on the best interests of the animals.
It is an advantage if you have agricultural education or equivalent practical experience. Previous experience in leadership is also seen as an asset, as is experience in teaching or mentoring students. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.
