A Societally Important Mission

At the Swedish Food Agency, we all work to ensure that the food sold and consumed in Sweden is safe. As a food inspector, you work within our operational food control and contribute to the Agency's mission by inspecting animals destined for slaughter to become food. Your responsibility is to inspect carcasses after slaughter and assess whether the meat can be approved as food or should be further examined by an official veterinarian. In your work, you will make good use of your knowledge in areas such as pathology and meat inspection. In the role of food inspector, you have good opportunities to develop your skills as a public authority official, while also learning a great deal about food production. Together with your team, you will continuously develop in matters concerning the entire food chain.

Team Gotland

You will belong to Team Gotland and be based in Visby. Here you will work together with seven engaged and pleasant colleagues, both official veterinarians and food inspectors. Since we are a small team, it is required, but we also see it as a matter of course, that we help and support each other daily without hierarchy in the questions and tasks that need to be handled. We have a family-like atmosphere where coffee breaks together are important, and we constantly learn from each other in our work. Travel is included in connection with control assignments and meetings within the team. Work at other locations within the unit may also become relevant.

The Swedish Food Agency works actively with team development and offers many employee benefits; wellness activities and extra vacation days are some of these.

Your Qualifications

  • Have completed the Swedish Food Agency's internal training to become a food inspector.
  • Are a trained veterinarian but lack Swedish veterinary licensure.

For the role, it is required that you have good knowledge of Swedish in both speech and writing, so that you can understand and perform work tasks based on written instructions. You also need to understand and be understood in English. Additionally, you need to have the ability to make quick decisions. Experience from working as a slaughterhouse worker is meritorious.

Your Personal Attributes

As a person, you should be punctual, efficient, and able to follow instructions. You are communicative and happy to share your knowledge and experience, and you are also eager to learn more from your colleagues.
