Farm Worker Wanted
The Farm:
We strive to be a beautiful and representative farm located in a village with two UNESCO World Heritage sites, attracting many visitors. The farm also features a simple summer café and a small building conservation shop.
We keep approximately 10 mountain-adjacent cows, 15 Hälsinge sheep, Gotland rabbits, and heritage chickens in a living gene bank. We cultivate approximately 15 hectares of land plus some forest and harvest our own hay. Currently, we do not milk cows, but we would appreciate if you have good experience with cows and calves.
Who We Are Looking For:
We are seeking a driven, meticulous, and caring person who wants to be part of a living, small-scale farm and self-sufficient household focused on preserving our Nordic heritage breeds.
We are looking for a strong, wise, and preferably initiative-taking person who enjoys physical work and is not afraid to get their hands dirty. You should be able to work independently and take responsibility for what needs to be done on the farm. Good health is essential. You should be stress-resistant and able to handle many different tasks in a high-paced environment. When working with animals, anything can happen – births, escapes, supervision of lambs and calves, etc. Therefore, you must be willing to step in when needed and be flexible with your working hours.
You should be able to communicate effectively and honestly, and feel responsible for our beautiful and unique buildings. All tasks must be performed with a positive attitude, carefully but also quickly and efficiently. This creates a more enjoyable work environment where everything is in its place, streamlining the work. Our guiding principles are passion, respect, honesty, and joy. We aim to be a role model for other similar farms.
Tasks:
- Animal care
- Moving grazing livestock
- Cleaning animal barns
- Crop cultivation
- Fencing
- Simple repairs, painting, and carpentry
- Garden maintenance
- Property maintenance
Requirements:
- Valid Driver's License Category B
- Good Swedish skills (required as documentation, regulations, and information about the animals are in Swedish)
- Non-smoker (the farm is a smoke-free workplace)
Merits:
- Good care skills and ability to handle animals
- Understanding of the importance of thorough cleaning
- Ability to keep tools and equipment organized
- Experience with tractors and ability to operate older agricultural machinery
- Ability to handle chainsaws and brush cutters (preferred)
We Offer:
A workplace with high moral standards where you have the opportunity to influence and develop a small and unique farm in a sustainable and entirely unique World Heritage environment. On the terms of the animals and nature.
Does this sound appealing?
Other Details:
We are also open to extra shifts as needed, available on a consultancy basis, hourly pay, part-time, or full-time as seasonal work. This is a great opportunity for someone who can take responsibility and perform tasks with good results.
Simple accommodation is available. Vacant apartments for rent cost approximately 4,000–5,000 SEK/month.
For more information or questions, please send a cover letter and CV to [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]) or contact Nina Östman at 070-666 70 72 (SMS or phone).
