Job Description

As a Mechanical Designer at AFRY, you will work across the entire chain of mechanical design. The role involves creating 3D models and drawings in CAD tools such as SolidWorks or Inventor, making material and component selections, and performing comprehensive strength calculations. You will become an integral part of the project team, responsible for the mechanical design aspect, which requires close collaboration with colleagues and other disciplines. Work is primarily conducted at AFRY offices or at the client's site, with some opportunities for remote work.

We expect you to drive the design process from concept to final solution, contributing your expertise to ensure projects are delivered according to requirements and schedules. You will receive support from your manager and a designated buddy to help you settle into the role, as well as access to AFRY's extensive network of specialists. In the long term, there are excellent development opportunities – for example, deepening your knowledge in strength calculations, taking on roles as a design lead or project manager, and developing as a consultant with a holistic perspective on client assignments.

Some assignments may require security clearance, meaning the role may involve security-classified projects in the future.

Qualifications

In the role of Mechanical Designer, your personal attributes are crucial for success. You need to be a Problem Solver capable of handling complex design challenges by seeing the big picture and approaching problems from multiple angles. Furthermore, it is important that you Plan and Structure your work, with clear plans for design tasks and organized drawings and revisions to ensure project quality. The role also requires you to be Proactive, as a consultant is often expected to drive work forward without detailed direction. Finally, it is essential that you are Service-Oriented, as you represent AFRY at the client site and need to act with a service mindset, deliver according to client needs, and be receptive to new opportunities.

Requirements

• Work Experience: Good knowledge of general mechanical design, experience with CAD design in a 3D CAD program, ability to collaborate and work in project teams.
• Education: University degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• System Skills: Experience working with a CAD program.
• Language Skills: Ability to understand and speak Swedish and English relatively fluently and in detail, both orally and in writing.

Merits

• Work Experience: Knowledge of machining techniques, general understanding of welded construction.
• Education: Courses or experience in welded construction.
• System Skills: SolidWorks, Catia, or Inventor.
