Custodian/Building Caretaker Wanted at Eketorp Castle

Do you want to work at one of Sweden's most unique and historic sites? We are now looking for a dedicated Custodian/Building Caretaker for Eketorp Castle on southern Öland – Öland's only fully excavated ancient fortress from the Iron Age.

Here, you work right in the middle of history. Within the impressive ring walls, which have been rebuilt based on archaeological findings, lie period-appropriate houses and environments that together create a living ancient castle. During the summer, the site buzzes with activity as visitors from all over the world come to experience the adventure, history, and the special atmosphere that only Eketorp can offer.

As a custodian/building caretaker, you are a key person in preserving and developing this unique environment. You contribute to keeping the castle welcoming, safe, and inspiring – for both our guests and your colleagues. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a custodian/building caretaker, you will work at Eketorp overseeing the Castle, the Shop, and the associated cottages. Before the season begins, there is much to be arranged to provide visitors with the best possible experience. During the peak season, the custodian/building caretaker starts early to complete certain tasks before visitors arrive. Communication with other staff on site is important. We are a team and help each other.

Main Duties

• Maintenance of green areas and plantings.
• Maintenance of buildings and the site.
• Cleaning and waste management.
• Care of machines and custodial duties.
• Moving items and transportation.
• Basic carpentry work.

The position is a fixed-term employment at 80% from May to October 2026. Selection and interviews are ongoing, so please submit your application today!

QUALIFICATIONS

A strong advantage is if you have a historical interest; building care is a significant merit. The National Property Board owns the buildings, and we aim to manage them in the best way possible. You should be service-oriented, solution-focused, and structured. Even though staff on site have different roles, we will work together. It is important that you are social, communicative, and maintain good relationships with both visitors and colleagues. It is crucial that you are safety-conscious and can identify potential risks on site. No day is the same at the Castle, and flexibility and general handy skills are very important.

A B driver's license is required.
