JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a correctional officer, you will be part of a team where you have daily contact with the client. The tasks at the prison/remand center are varied: care, surveillance, searches, and security work are mixed with release planning and conversation/motivation work. The work at the remand center is often routine-based and focused on care and security tasks. Clients may be held in remand for long periods without meeting anyone other than their lawyer and the staff at the remand center, which places special demands on you as a correctional officer.

Working as a correctional officer means you can make a difference for other people and contribute to a better society. To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share Kriminalvården's fundamental values of a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and the belief that people can develop.

You will begin your employment at the workplace where you will receive an introduction for three weeks. After a period of service, you will be offered a place in Kriminalvården's basic training, which is mandatory and lasts for 8 weeks. You will receive a salary throughout the training period. During the probationary period, ongoing assessments will be conducted regarding your eligibility for permanent employment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Your personal qualities are important. As a correctional officer, you need to be secure, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you will drive the operations, so you need to have good collaboration skills and be clear in your communication. You should be able to act physically when required.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Work experience, including seasonal work, part-time employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not considered equivalent to employment.
  • A completed high school education or other education in combination with work experience that Kriminalvården deems relevant.
  • Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both spoken and written form.
  • Good computer skills.

It is advantageous if you have:

  • Work experience in corrections, security work, social care, psychiatry, or healthcare and social work.
  • Knowledge in relevant areas, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management.
  • Relevant language skills.

OTHER

This means that you uphold democratic values and the state values that apply to Kriminalvården's operations.
