Welcome to SSC Space (formerly Swedish Space Corporation), the perfect workplace for those who are passionate about technology in general and space in particular.

We own and operate Esrange Space Center, one of the world's most versatile facilities for rocket and stratospheric balloon operations, enabling a wide range of scientific and technical missions.

With space organizations, research institutes, and institutional and commercial actors as clients, we offer specialist expertise in satellite communication, consulting services for spacecraft, rocket, and stratospheric balloon systems. SSC Space operates one of the world's largest global networks of ground stations for satellite communication.

Are you driven by a passion for people and the ambition to create a fantastic workplace? Are you ready to embark on an exciting journey with us to help Earth benefit from space?

Seize the opportunity to make a difference as a Project and Operations Leader in our Rockets & Balloons team! We are looking for a dedicated person who shares our core values: Customer passion, Care, Collaboration, Curiosity, and Courage.

YOUR ROLE

In this role, you will be responsible for planning, managing, and operating projects and countdowns within our Rockets & Balloons department. You will be engaged throughout the entire project lifecycle - from preparation and planning to operations and evaluation.

You will plan rocket and balloon campaigns for international clients and be involved from the early preparations to post-flight activities. You will be the primary contact for clients and responsible for creating and maintaining good relationships with both clients and partners.

You will lead the daily operations during campaigns, facilitate communication between teams, drive projects, document progress, and continuously work on improvements and customer satisfaction.

Your tasks include leading operations from the Operations Center during launches, coordinating all stations, planning and conducting countdowns, and ensuring a correct and safe operation from the start of the countdown until we retrieve the equipment. You will be the final decision-maker during countdowns, including in cases of deviations or incidents, maintain continuous communication with emergency services, clients, and stations, and give the go-ahead for launch.

As a participant in the department management, you will gain insight into the strategic work of developing our operations and meeting the challenges and changes facing the space industry. Your voice and insights from the operational side are important for establishing a sustainable space industry and developing SSC Space into the world's most versatile space center.

WHO YOU ARE

We see that you have a strong technical understanding, either through education in a relevant field or through equivalent work experience. Since we operate in an international environment with clients and colleagues from around the world, you need to have good knowledge of English. Swedish is highly valued but not a requirement.

We work according to the project model PPS. Experience with PPS or similar structured project management frameworks is therefore an advantage.

We are looking for individuals who thrive in a role with significant responsibility and who have a business-oriented approach. You should have an easy time creating a holistic perspective and appreciate problem-solving. The ability to remain calm in stressful situations is also seen as an important trait.

As your daily work involves many contacts, you need to be able to easily create and maintain relationships. You will be part of a project management team consisting of six project managers and will collaborate closely with colleagues within the Rockets & Balloons department. Therefore, good collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with others are crucial.

For us, your personal qualities are essential. If you have the right drive and attitude, there are good opportunities to grow in the role, even if your experience is limited.

A valid driver's license and access to a car are required.

WE OFFER YOU

  • A unique opportunity to contribute to a wide range of projects and play an active role in both the Swedish and international space industry.
  • Excellent opportunities for personal and professional development.
  • An exciting, international workplace characterized by an open atmosphere and proud employees worldwide.

Other benefits

  • In addition to vacation and traditional holidays, we offer extra days off, such as reduced working hours between Christmas and New Year and during the Ascension Day weekend — a total of 6–11 extra days depending on the calendar year.
  • Health and wellness allowance of 5,000 SEK per year.
  • Health-related benefits such as voluntary health insurance and regular health checks for eligible employees.
  • Opportunity for a benefit bicycle through leasing arrangements.
  • Support for employee-initiated activities that promote health, community, and culture.
  • Collective agreements including good pension solutions, parental pay, and insurance.

LOCATION

The position is a permanent full-time employment (40h/week). As part of our team, you will participate in rocket and balloon campaigns that may take place outside regular working hours.

Your primary workplace is Esrange Space Center, with the possibility of working in Kiruna city center as needed. Work at other locations may occur during campaigns.
