Environmental Protection Officer at the County Administrative Board of Kalmar

In the environmental unit, we are about 20 employees who work with supervision and permit assessment of environmentally hazardous activities, as well as with supervision and grant issues related to contaminated areas. Our responsibilities also include supervisory guidance in these areas and supervision according to Seveso legislation.

The employment is for 12 months.

Job Responsibilities

In this position as an Environmental Protection Officer, you will work with supervision of environmentally hazardous activities according to the Environmental Code or other relevant legislation. You will have your own supervisory responsibility for several supervisory objects and conduct field visits. Supervisory guidance towards the municipalities in the region is also an important task.

You will participate in other units' cases where environmental protection issues are part of the assignment, as well as participate in various cross-sectoral groups within the County Administrative Board. Other tasks that may arise within the framework of the employment include processing application and notification cases. The work involves a lot of dialogue with operators, municipalities, other authorities, and private individuals.

The work as an Environmental Protection Officer spans many different subject and competence areas. Support in the work is provided by experienced colleagues, lawyers, and a structured and goal-oriented working method. There may be opportunities to adapt the role and tasks according to competence.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who is structured, meticulous, analytical, and can combine good collaboration skills with the ability to be self-driven and manage their own cases and tasks. You have good judgment, can make correct assessments from a holistic perspective, and can clearly and simply justify decisions made. You also have the ability to review extensive documentation and see the big picture in complex contexts, determining which issues are most important based on our areas of responsibility.

Since the work involves both internal and external contacts, it is important that you find it easy to build good relationships and feel comfortable in contacts with those who may be affected by our decisions in various matters. You are pedagogical, clear, and express yourself well in Swedish both orally and in writing.

Requirements:

• Academic education in environmental science, natural science, or engineering with a focus on environment, chemistry, or other education that we assess as equivalent.
• Several years of relevant experience working with the Environmental Code and thus good knowledge of the Environmental Code and its application.
• Driving license B.

Meritorious:

• Relevant experience in public authority enforcement, supervision/assessment of environmentally hazardous activities.
• Experience in agricultural supervision.
