The Åre Libraries are a vital community function that should be accessible, safe, democratic, and work towards a more equal society. The library is a place where everyone is welcome, everyone is equally important and equally valued. At Åre Libraries, we are a team of about 10 people. The Åre Libraries consist of public libraries in Hallen, Åre, Kall, Mörsil, Duved, and Järpen and provide school library services to the municipality's eight primary schools, the high school in Järpen, and the municipality's preschools. The Åre Libraries are part of the Unit for Libraries and Community Guidance, which, in addition to libraries, consists of the activities of Sámi coordination, democratic coordination, and integration. The unit belongs to the Citizen Service department.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

To ensure a sustainable work climate where we learn from and help each other, we largely work in teams with different focus/responsibility areas but always with a foundation in and connection to the public libraries' mission that includes the entire work team.

You will be part of the school library team that provides school library services to the municipality's primary schools based on the collaboration agreement Åre Libraries has with the schools. We work as a team but with different focus schools. You will focus on school library work at Duved School.

You will also be part of the working group that promotes reading for children aged 0-6 years and their adults. We work with preschools with cloakroom libraries, orders of book bags, as a knowledge resource for educators, and with receiving groups. We also work outreach to inspire early language stimulation and invite to the library. This may involve visits to family centers, open preschools, or holding open story hours/music sessions/children's theater for parents on leave.

As part of the library's work team, you will also staff Åre Library and Järpen Library. Some evening and weekend work is included in the position.

Common tasks include:

• Staff the information desk at school libraries and public libraries.
• Receive and sort book boxes for classes and preschool groups.
• Purchase, weed, and register children's books.
• Plan and execute reading promotion activities during and outside school hours, e.g., book talks and holiday activities.
• Be a knowledge resource for educators in schools and preschools to find literature and other sources for reading promotion, source criticism, or media and information literacy (MIL).
• Develop and create content for our digital school platform.
• Be part of developing a long-term and qualitative school library operation in Åre Municipality.
• Hold story hours and library information for younger children and their parents.

QUALIFICATIONS

The following is required for the position:

• A degree in library and information science or other education that the employer assesses as equivalent.
• Interest and knowledge in children's and youth literature and reading promotion activities.
• Comfortable and enjoy speaking in front of groups.
• Good digital competence that can be used in your daily work.
• Good pedagogical ability in interactions with children, youth, and adults.
• Driver's license (B) and access to a car.

The position is vacant provided that there is no redundancy, need for relocation, or priority in the municipality. A probationary period may be applied.
