The research spans several areas, including underwater, cyber defence, space, electronic warfare, sensor systems, civil defence, CBRNe (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive materials), military platforms including weapons and protection, as well as security policy analysis. FOI's research plays a key role in building Sweden's defence capabilities.

Would you like to be part of a knowledgeable team leading Sweden's research on nuclear explosion detection? Do you want to work with applied research? Are you also interested in working with measurements and analysis of radioactivity? Then you could be the perfect candidate for the role of researcher in the nuclear explosion detection unit! Take the next step in your career and contribute to meaningful research and societal benefit.

If so, FOI could be your new workplace! We offer a balanced work life, a developing work environment, and a socially important job! We are now looking for up to two researchers in Kista for nuclear explosion detection – radiation detection.

About the Position

In the role of researcher in nuclear explosion detection, you will work with analysis and experimental work in radiation detection.

Your tasks will include the development of existing and future systems for the detection of radioactivity as well as the development of methods for data analysis. The scope of work spans the entire chain from source term to reporting to clients. In this role, you will handle various questions related to radiation detection and treaty verification. Monitoring and routine analysis of data from national and international systems may be included in the position. You will work with research and monitoring, as well as possibly investigative work.

The operation conducts close collaboration with international organizations, institutions in other countries, as well as universities and other authorities in Sweden. Within this framework, you will participate in national and international meetings. Fieldwork may also be relevant.

The place of employment is Kista, Stockholm. The work involves travel, but not regularly.

About the Unit

You will be part of the Nuclear Explosion Detection Unit, which belongs to the CBRN Protection and Security Department.

In the unit, we conduct research and development on systems for detecting signals from nuclear explosions and other nuclear events, such as measuring radionuclides or seismo-acoustic waves. We also operate a data center, a network of measurement stations, and are part of the national radiation protection preparedness. The work performed within the operation is both for national needs and internationally, primarily for the verification of nuclear-related agreements.

Within the department's areas of activity, we provide technical expert support to the government, the Government Offices, the Armed Forces, and other relevant authorities within total defence.
