The County Administrative Board of Södermanland is looking for a

Animal Welfare Officer (Ref. no. 112-1758-2026)

The County Administrative Board of Södermanland is looking for an animal welfare officer for the unit for animal welfare and veterinary issues. Within the unit, we work with issues concerning the health of animals and humans. The unit is responsible for ensuring that farm animals and pets are cared for according to the requirements of the Animal Welfare Act. The unit is also responsible for food and feed controls of primary producers, preliminary approvals of stable buildings, supervision of dogs and cats, infection control issues, and other veterinary tasks.

Job Responsibilities

As an officer in the unit for animal welfare and veterinary issues, you will handle and control permits for activities involving horses, dogs, cats, and other pets, inspect animal transports, control wildlife enclosures, and conduct planned inspections of farm animals. You will receive reports of animal neglect and conduct investigations and inspections in reported cases, handle notifications from the police, and execute decisions regarding confiscations. Furthermore, you will also work with preliminary approvals. The preliminary approval area includes, for example, processing applications for preliminary approvals, post-approval inspections, and inspections of animal stables. The work also involves monitoring issues related to our operations to develop and improve internal processes.

Qualifications and Profile

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A university degree and is an agronomist, ethologist, environmental or health inspector. Alternatively, you have another education that the employer assesses as equivalent.
  • Good knowledge of relevant legislation and the risks to animal welfare in various forms of animal husbandry.
  • Good knowledge of the Office package.
  • Good communication skills and proficiency in Swedish, both spoken and written.
  • A valid driver's license (B).

It is advantageous if you have:

  • Previous experience in handling cases and experience working independently with control/supervision within the County Administrative Board or another government authority.
  • Knowledge of the systems Platina and DSK.
  • Training in construction and ventilation in animal stables.
  • Practical experience working with farm animals.

About the Position

The employment is a temporary position for 1 year starting May 1, 2026, or by agreement. All positions at the County Administrative Board may be subject to security clearance depending on the nature of the assignment.
