Care Assistant for Gotlandsgatan in Västerås

The city of Västerås is developing the future of elderly care, and now you have the opportunity to be involved from the start when we open the new dementia care facility Gotlandsgatan in Gryta in the spring of 2026. With your experience, you will help build routines, working methods, and an operation where your skills are valued. Welcome with your application!

Your Responsibilities

Gotlandsgatan has 54 places for people with dementia, spread over three floors. The facility is equipped with safety-enhancing technology, communal areas, and opportunities for residents to socialize with their relatives.

You will assist our residents with personal care and support them in their daily lives based on their needs. This is an active role where you will also handle delegated tasks such as medication management. You will communicate with residents, relatives, and colleagues and also serve as a contact person.

For day and evening staff, work is scheduled during the day, evenings, and every other weekend with shifts between 7 AM and 10 PM. For night staff, most of the work is scheduled at night, with shifts of nine hours between 10 PM and 7 AM, but evening shifts may occur.

The start dates for the positions will vary as the floors open. The first floor is planned to open in the spring.

Your Qualifications

Since we are opening Gotlandsgatan from the start, it is important that you thrive in a changing environment in an operation that is under construction. You are confident in your professional role, have a professional demeanor, and see the value of structure, documentation, and common working methods.

You contribute to creating clear routines and working methods together. It is natural for you to collaborate in a team, help across areas of responsibility, and adapt to the needs of the operation. You work with several homes and thrive in a flexible working style. Together with the team, you plan and prioritize tasks based on the needs of the operation. To be employed as a care assistant, you must have a care assistant education and a valid certificate from the National Board of Health and Welfare. Alternatively, if you were permanently employed as a care assistant on July 1, 2023, you can instead present a work certificate from your employer.

If you have experience in care work but lack formal education, you can be employed as a care aide.

You are comfortable with digital tools, and if you have previously worked with safety-enhancing technology, that is a plus. Knowledge and/or experience with BPSD or dementia is also an advantage.

Additional Information

Before you can be employed, you need to present an approved extract from the police criminal record (exceptions apply for employees moving from a similar customer-facing role within the administration).

During the interview, you need to verify your citizenship. You can do this with a passport or a personal identification certificate along with an ID document. If you are not a citizen of Sweden, the EU, EEA, or Switzerland, you must show that you have a valid work permit or are exempt from the requirement to have a work permit.
