About the workplace

The Environmental Unit is part of the Community Building Office, which also includes the Building Unit, Planning and Development Unit, Alcohol and Tobacco Unit, and Administration Unit.

The operation consists of nine environmental and health protection inspectors working in environmental protection, health protection, and food safety.

We are looking for two committed and unpretentious environmental and health protection inspectors for our unit located in central Sala. It is extremely important that you enjoy your job, and here you will find a workplace filled with care for each other where you always have a colleague to ask and turn to.

Job Responsibilities

As an environmental and health protection inspector, you will perform supervision and processing according to applicable legislation.

The legacy from the mine is constantly present in Sala municipality - tourist attractions, unique and beautiful environments - but the legacy also manifests itself in the form of pollution in the ground, which risks affecting people and the environment. The position focused on contaminated areas involves working with supervision of contaminated sites and buildings. The work includes processing notifications, reviewing and assessing reports, historical inventories, sampling plans, risk assessments, risk evaluations, remedial investigations, final reports, control programs, and more.

The position focused on food control involves conducting inspections of food businesses, processing registrations and various cases, drafting service letters and decisions, and providing information, guidance, and advice to entrepreneurs and the public.

As an environmental and health protection inspector with us, we want you to be highly involved in planning and prioritizing supervision assignments, where you feel you can influence your work areas. The work involves exercising authority, where you assess and decide on individual cases.

This is a varied job, which means you need to be prepared to support your colleagues in various matters. It also means that your colleagues will be ready to support you. The work involves many contacts with operators, other authorities, and the public.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you need to have good social skills, be attentive and curious in your interactions with people. You are unpretentious, solution-focused, and enjoy achieving success through collaboration. You understand the importance of service in public authority work and can create and maintain trust and show respect through factual, correct, and empathetic communication. Being responsible and having a quality mindset is a natural part of your way of working. You work in a structured manner and have good planning and prioritization skills.

You have a university degree in environmental and health protection or another equivalent education.

You have very good knowledge of contaminated areas and food safety as well as applicable legislation. Previous experience in supervision and control as well as administrative law is an advantage.

You can work independently but also enjoy working in a team. Your ability to create trust and confidence in your verbal and written communication is important.

We expect you to have good computer skills and preferably knowledge of digital case management systems. In Sala, we work in the Ecos 2 system.

The position requires that you have a good ability to express yourself in Swedish, both orally and in writing.

Other Requirements:

• Driver's license and driving experience
