Botanical Garden is hiring staff for visitor center and shop

The Botanical Garden is a place where the diversity of the plant world is at the center. It is a scientific institution with botanical research and horticultural development at a high international level. Throughout the garden's hundred-year history, plants from around the world have found their place in our living collections, now cultivated in beautiful environments throughout the garden, in the arboretum, and in the greenhouses.

Every year, our 600,000 visitors have an extraordinary experience that we hope will spark interest in the diversity of the plant world and the important conservation work associated with it. The educational activities are aimed at both schools and educational actors in the form of lessons and further training, as well as to the public through exhibitions, tours, and events.

The Botanical Garden is one of the largest botanical gardens in Europe, covering around 75 hectares and featuring 20,000 unique plants from over 130 countries. In our workplace, all employees are important parts of the whole, and together we work towards common goals, with Swedish as our working language.

Description

We are looking for someone who wants to create a welcoming and inspiring experience for our visitors in our visitor center and shop. You who enjoy meeting other people, want to get to know us and our plants, and are inspired to share that knowledge.

Responsibilities

Our visitor center is located at the entrance to the garden. You will likely meet visitors both on their way in and out of the garden. What you convey plays a significant role in the impressions they will have of us.

We offer varied and versatile tasks in a unique and beautiful environment. You belong to the public unit, but you will find your colleagues throughout the garden. Your role will be to work in our visitor center and shop. It is a varied job that includes hosting, sales, cash handling, restocking, cleaning, plant care, booking, and receiving deliveries. The most important task is to inform our visitors about our activities and the parts of the operations, both the garden and arboretum, as well as programs that visitors can participate in on-site.

The workload varies but averages about 20% during the period from May to August, primarily on weekends.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with relevant education for the position, at least a high school diploma. You should have experience in sales work and a strong interest in putting our visitors and customers at the center. Cash handling experience and fluent English are required. A significant part of the shop's assortment consists of plants, so horticultural education and/or experience from the green sector is an advantage. Experience in roles involving hosting and information dissemination is also advantageous.

We are constantly working on developing our operations with the goal of providing our visitors with a rich experience, which places high demands on service spirit, good reception, quality awareness, attention to detail, initiative, and the desire to build good relationships. A driver's license is desirable. You should also have basic knowledge of Office programs.
