At the Swedish Transport Administration, you help facilitate the daily lives of residents and businesses across Sweden. You do this by contributing to the important work of traffic safety.

Traffic ControllerJob Responsibilities

As a traffic controller, you work in a traffic center together with other traffic controllers and operations technicians to ensure that our roads, tunnels, and facilities are passable. In this role, you monitor, control, and inform about road traffic within a designated area of responsibility.

We work together in a stimulating and developing environment where no day is like the other.

Your tasks include:

  • monitoring traffic flow using technical equipment in the facility
  • informing road users, business transports, media, police, SOS, etc. about the situation on the roads via web and traffic radio
  • managing disruptions in traffic due to accidents, obstacles, and stoppages to maintain maximum accessibility
  • analyzing and forecasting planned and unplanned events that may affect traffic, such as weather or roadworks
  • supporting internal operational management functions during non-normal events through information management and gathering decision-making data

The position involves shift work, 12-hour shifts, around the clock, year-round.

In this role, you will receive an educational, challenging, and enjoyable job with a thorough introduction, training, and guidance to help you get into the work in the best way. The training lasts about 6 months and includes both practical and theoretical components.

Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you should have good analytical skills, meaning you can easily analyze the causes of an event and quickly find a solution. The role requires adaptability as conditions can change rapidly, and you need to be able to reprioritize at short notice. Your communication skills are one of your strengths - you express yourself clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing, and adapt your communication to the audience and situation. You focus on the safety of road users and employees, ensuring that decisions and actions are taken with security and preventive risk assessment. In addition, you need to have good collaboration skills as you will be working in an environment where you collaborate internally and with external parties.

You are motivated by active employee engagement where you responsibly take charge of your tasks while being aware of how you are part of and contribute to the whole by collaborating with others.

We are looking for someone who:

  • has completed high school education or equivalent education
  • has good ability and recent experience in using computers and various systems to facilitate work tasks
  • has good knowledge of Swedish in speech and writing
  • can and wants to work shifts that include daytime, evening, night, and weekend work
  • has a driver's license for a passenger car

It is advantageous if you have work experience:

  • from an operational environment - for example, from traffic management, operations management, or alarm center or equivalent
  • of working shifts
