Are you looking for a varied part-time job in an exciting maritime environment?

Stockholm Ports is now seeking on-call traffic controllers.

The Monitoring and Traffic Control Center (BTC) at Stockholm Ports is a round-the-clock staffed center that is an important part of the port's operations. The function can be described as the spider in the web that coordinates and organizes the operational activities. As a Traffic Controller, you will among other things:

  • plan and administer vessel arrivals and services to vessels within the areas of Stockholm Ports
  • work with safety technical systems for monitoring and access within the areas of Stockholm Ports
  • handle reports of faults in port facilities
  • ensure that the right personnel are present at the port facilities
  • be part of Stockholm Ports' crisis function
  • remotely operate opening bridges and locks at night

The tasks are varied and the workload shifts throughout the day and year. The role requires you to quickly switch between administrative tasks and event-driven work, have good multitasking ability, and take personal responsibility for ongoing administrative work.

Working Hours

The work is usually performed in twelve-hour shifts from 06:30 to 18:45 or 18:30 to 06:45. The number of shifts per month varies and there is a need year-round, but expect a higher workload during the summer period.

Is this you?

We are looking for someone who has:

  • a minimum of a high school diploma
  • very good computer skills and the ability to handle various IT systems
  • good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in both Swedish and English
  • experience in service work

It is an advantage if you have:

  • ship officer class VIII or higher
  • other education in maritime studies and/or experience in shipping
  • education and/or experience in logistics work
  • valid radio certification SRC/VHF

We place great emphasis on your personal qualities. Fundamentally, you are a team player with a good ability to make independent decisions. You are structured, responsible, and stress-resistant with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously without losing focus and quality. You enjoy solving problems, are communicative, and like to collaborate with both colleagues and customers.

We believe that this position is suitable for you who are studying or have another part-time job, and we would like you to be our substitute for several years to come. Before you start working independently as a traffic controller, you will go through an introductory period where you will be trained under the supervision of regular traffic controllers. You will also receive training in alarm management and in the operation of locks and bridges. During the training period, you will primarily work daytime in shorter shifts. If you lack SRC/VHF certification, we will ensure that you receive relevant training.

The position is security classified, which means that we conduct background checks, security interviews, and record checks before employment.

We Offer

As a traffic controller, you will gain valuable experience working at a modern port company with strategic significance for the development of the Stockholm region.

Stockholm Ports is committed to maintaining an open atmosphere, and many employees are highly engaged in their work and the operations. Employees describe themselves as committed, solution-oriented, and prioritize the interests of the operations. Sustainable development and a focus on work environment and diversity permeate our operations.

The Monitoring and Traffic Control Center (BTC) of Stockholm Ports is part of the newly established Maritime Traffic Center Stockholm (STCS) at Värtaterminalen, which means we share premises with the Swedish Maritime Administration's functions for maritime traffic services.

We Look Forward to Your Application

If you believe that the position of traffic controller fits you and how you want to work, please send your application as soon as you can, but no later than March 1, 2026. Interviews will be conducted on an ongoing basis.

We are recruiting without a personal letter in this recruitment to strengthen the focus on the competencies and experiences required for this role. When assessing your application, we will only consider your CV and a number of questions you will be asked to answer in conjunction with your application. We ask that you respond concretely and succinctly to the questions, and that there is a clear connection between your answers and your CV.
