About the Workplace
The mission of the Environmental and Climate Committee is to drive the city's environmental work and protect human health and the environment.
In practice, this means that the Environmental Administration drives and coordinates the city's work within the ecological dimension of sustainable development and supports and pushes for the implementation of the city's environmental and climate programs and the use of the city's environmental management system. Additionally, we have a supervisory role responsible for oversight, testing, and control according to the Environmental Code, as well as food, alcohol, and tobacco laws, all aimed at protecting human health and the environment.
Job Responsibilities
Do you want to work for a sustainable city and a good living environment in Gothenburg? The Environmental Strategy Department's mission is to drive and coordinate the ecological dimension of sustainable development in Gothenburg. We do this by driving, coordinating, and following up on several of Gothenburg's strategic programs and action plans with the goal of making Gothenburg an ecologically sustainable city by 2030. The department is responsible for environmental monitoring in various areas and contributes to Gothenburg's planning process. We provide the basis for political decisions based on the latest knowledge, such as research and measurements in the field, and our analyses of the same. We collaborate with other municipalities, authorities, academia, and businesses, as well as participate in various development projects.
We are looking for a colleague for strategic work on issues concerning nature, ecology, and biodiversity with a focus on terrestrial environments. You will be part of various working groups to drive the city's green issues and also work independently on investigations and development work based on the administration's political mandate. Part of your work will involve participating in the planning, procurement, and analysis of the ecological environmental monitoring conducted by the administration and responding to various types of referrals. You will also work on the follow-up and development of environmental goals related to natural environments. Other tasks within the department may also arise.
Qualifications
You have a university degree in environmental science or biology and conservation. You have good knowledge and several years of experience in strategic work with biodiversity, ecosystem services, and conservation planning focused on terrestrial natural environments. You have experience leading larger projects or assignments and responding to referrals related to the Environmental Code. Experience with fieldwork and basic GIS analysis is an advantage. We prefer candidates who have worked in a public sector and understand the political structure in which the administration operates.
The assignment requires you to be analytical and possess strong communication skills. You are able to see connections and draw logical conclusions from limited and/or complex information. You can share information and ideas both verbally and in writing. You adapt your communication to the audience, target group, and situation. You take initiative and responsibility for moving the work forward, whether you work alone or with others. You are structured, which means you plan tasks and projects in good time, use your time effectively, and ensure that work is completed and results are followed up. You can oversee your own area of responsibility and place the significance of your tasks in a larger context. You will have contacts with various stakeholders, both internally within Gothenburg City and externally.
You will belong to the Environmental Strategy Department and the Ecology and Water Operations Group. In the group, you will have 12 engaged, inclusive, and helpful colleagues.
