Norrbotten Museum is a regional museum operating in Sweden's northernmost county.

Norrbotten County stretches from mountains to archipelago, covering a quarter of the country's area and has an exciting cultural history shaped by long-distance contacts. Throughout history, the county has been a cultural melting pot where national minority languages such as Sami, Meänkieli, Romani Chib, and Finnish are heard alongside Swedish, Somali, Afghan, and over 90 other new minority languages.

Norrbotten Museum works to preserve, utilize, and develop the region's cultural heritage and cultural environments through research, collection management, and public activities.

We are now looking for a curator/conservator for a fixed-term position in the Collections Department.

We seek someone with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Cultural Heritage with a focus on conservation (180 credits). Good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written, is a requirement, as well as a B driver's license. The ideal candidate has experience working in a museum, specifically with collection work and experience in active and preventive conservation in a museum.
It is an advantage if you have experience from museum work in northern Sweden and the unique cultural heritage that our region displays, as well as experience with registration, labeling, and cleaning of museum objects, object photography, and image editing. Experience working in the collection management system Carlotta is also advantageous.

What you will work with

Norrbotten Museum will, during 2025, develop a management plan for collections and archives, as well as make targeted efforts in the museum's collections. A large part of your time will involve working with the museum's textile collection, where you, together with the museum's collection staff, will organize, rearrange, and create better storage conditions for the objects in accordance with good collection management practices. Registration and labeling of objects may also be relevant.
Your work will include starting a status assessment of the textile collection as a whole and also of individual objects. You will suggest measures, and the work may involve direct care actions. There may also be various efforts in other parts of the museum's collections. The work may involve process leadership and supervision of colleagues. Your role will be to assist in this work and to plan selected parts based on your profession as a curator/conservator.

Information about the position

We offer a fixed-term employment for three months with the possibility of extension, starting 2025-02-10. The position is full-time, working hours 08-17, Monday to Friday.
Selection and interviews are ongoing, and the position may be filled before the application deadline.
