Cemetery Caretaker for the Church of Sweden Medelpad's Northern Parish

About Medelpad's Northern Parish

Medelpad's Northern Parish was established at the turn of the year 2024/2025 and includes the congregations of Alnö, Indal, Holm, Liden, Sättna, Skön, Timrå, Hässjö, Ljustorp, and Tynderö.

Through collaboration, we aim to strengthen and support the long-term work in our congregations – so that the church can continue to be a present and vital force in people's daily lives.

The parish has a shared office that gathers expertise in administration, finance, HR, communication, property, and cemetery operations. The office serves as support for the local congregations, which in turn continue their important work close to the congregation members – in worship, diaconia, and activities.

In Medelpad's Northern Parish, there are fourteen cemeteries distributed over five work areas. We work with great care to maintain these environments and preserve them for future generations.

About the Position

We offer seasonal full-time positions with local placement in one of our five work areas. We are also looking for some who can work shorter periods during the season. In your application, you have the opportunity to specify which area you would like to work in.

Job Responsibilities

In your role, you will meet and greet visitors at the cemetery, where a friendly and respectful approach is important. Therefore, we are looking for someone who is social and accommodating. Since the job may involve moving between cemeteries within the area, a B driver's license is a significant advantage.

As a cemetery caretaker, you will work in a team responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of cemeteries and churches in your area. Your main job responsibilities include:

  • Maintenance of green areas and graves
  • Planting flowers and plants
  • Trimming hedges and weed control
  • Serving at worship services, baptisms, weddings, and funerals

We are looking for someone who

  • Enjoys working outdoors in all weather
  • Is meticulous, structured, and takes responsibility for their work
  • Has good collaboration skills but can also work independently
  • Is a member of the Church of Sweden and shares its beliefs and values
  • Has previous experience in cemetery, gardening, or park work (meritorious)
  • Has a B driver's license and access to a personal vehicle (meritorious)
