The County Administrative Board of Södermanland is looking for

Nature Guide for Naturum Stendörren Season 2026 (Ref. no. 112-623-2026)

The County Administrative Board is an expert authority in areas such as nature and environment, community planning, and rural development, directly subordinate to the government. We act as a link between people, municipalities, regions, and various authorities. We work to ensure that national goals are implemented in the county. We do this by considering the whole in our authority exercise, by disseminating knowledge, and by coordinating and developing various issues. Sustainable development provides opportunities for the future in Södermanland for all.

Naturum Stendörren is a visitor center in the Stendörren Nature Reserve. Here, the focus is on the nature of the Baltic Sea and the Sörmland coast. More than 30,000 visitors from Sweden and other countries come to Naturum each year. Visitors can take part in various exhibitions and join guided tours and other activities organized by Naturum. One of Naturum's most popular activities is netting for small sea creatures.

Naturum's operations are part of the County Administrative Board's nature conservation unit. The unit is also responsible for the management of nature reserves, measures for endangered species, outdoor life, and more. Currently, about 20 people work in the unit.

Job Responsibilities

As a nature guide at Naturum Stendörren, you will be the one who meets visitors, inspires them, and makes their visit to Naturum and the reserve extra memorable! We are looking for someone who sees each encounter as an opportunity to convey knowledge and a sense of nature and a chance to give that little extra to the visitor.

The work involves meeting Naturum's visitors and guiding them through the exhibitions. You will provide tips on nature and experiences in the reserve and lead various activities and guided tours for them. You will also staff Naturum's small shop for books and souvenirs, and during the low season, offer simple refreshments. The work also includes cleaning and maintaining the exhibitions and surrounding areas. Additionally, there are administrative tasks where you will respond to inquiries via Naturum's email, register visitor statistics, and produce simple informational materials.

Qualifications and Profile

You have:

  • Completed or ongoing university or college education in natural sciences with a focus on biology, geoscience, nature conservation, or other education or experience that we deem equivalent.
  • Good knowledge of the species and environment of the Baltic Sea and/or aquatic ecology.
  • Basic knowledge of species and nature conservation in cultural landscapes and/or forests.
  • Good communication skills in both spoken and written form.
  • The ability to convey your knowledge to both children and adults, individual visitors and larger groups in an inspiring way.
  • Very good language skills in Swedish and English.
  • Good computer skills.

It is an advantage if you:

  • Are a certified nature guide or nature instructor.
  • Have experience in nature guiding and tours.
  • Have education and/or experience from educational activities or service professions.
  • Have local knowledge and familiarity with the area.
  • Have a driver's license and access to a car.
  • Speak another language.

As a person, you are:

  • Welcoming with a good sense of hospitality and service.
  • Enjoy meeting and talking with people of different ages and backgrounds.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment with a lot happening.
  • Practical, unpretentious, and willing to help where needed.
  • Flexible, easy to collaborate with, and able to build good relationships.
  • Responsible, organized, and able to “see” what needs to be done.
  • Independent, creative, and able to solve problems.

Great emphasis will be placed on your personal qualities and your availability. We strive for diversity in our team, so please share any special skills you believe could be an asset to the work at Naturum, such as a specific group of species you are particularly knowledgeable about or an artistic talent.

The County Administrative Board applies competence-based recruitment. As part of this, a work test will be conducted during the interviews.

About the Positions

The positions are seasonal employment with hourly compensation from April 20 to October 30, 2026. Each position comprises approximately 45% of a full-time position with more hours during June, July, and August. The work is scheduled and includes weekend work to a large extent. Working hours are approximately 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, and we adjust the schedule based on which parts of the season you are available to work. Please fill in which weeks you can work in the application form.

There are no public transport connections to Stendörren; the nearest bus station is about 4 km away. During the summer, buses run infrequently, so it is a significant advantage if you wish to work at Naturum and have a driver's license and access to a car.

Introduction days will be held on April 21-22. It is crucial that you can participate in these, so please mark these dates in your calendar now.
