The County Administrative Board of Södermanland is looking for a

Nature Guide and Acting Nature Center Manager (Ref. no. 112-626-2026)

Naturum Stendörren is a visitor center in the Stendörren Nature Reserve. Here, the focus is on the nature of the Baltic Sea and the Södermanland coast. Each year, more than 30,000 visitors from Sweden and other countries come to the nature center. Visitors can take part in various exhibitions and join guided tours and other activities organized by the nature center. One of the most popular activities is netting for small marine creatures.

The operations of the nature center are part of the County Administrative Board's nature conservation unit. The unit is also responsible for the management of nature reserves, measures for endangered species, outdoor recreation, and more. Currently, about 20 people work in the unit.

Job Responsibilities

As a nature guide and acting manager at Naturum Stendörren, you will begin your employment earlier in the spring to assist the manager with both administrative and practical preparations for the season. You will also help with the introduction of other seasonal staff. During the nature center's open season, you will work as one of the nature guides, but with expanded administrative responsibilities. During the regular manager's vacation, you will take over the role of nature center manager. After the nature center closes in the fall, you will remain for follow-up work and to prepare the nature center for winter.

Examples of job responsibilities, in addition to those included in the nature guide role:

  • supervise and support seasonal staff
  • prepare activities and events
  • marketing and social media posts
  • book groups and schools, conduct booked activities
  • review invoices
  • input products into the cash register and update prices
  • maintain contact with external actors and partners.

Qualifications and Profile

We are looking for an experienced nature guide, biologist, and administrator, preferably with leadership experience.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Completed or ongoing university or college education in natural sciences with a focus on biology, geoscience, nature conservation, or other education or experience that we consider equivalent.
  • Good knowledge of the Baltic Sea's nature and environment, the cultural history of the archipelago, and nature conservation and species in cultural landscapes
  • Good communication skills in speech and writing
  • Good computer skills
  • Very good language skills in Swedish and English.

It is advantageous if you:

  • Have worked as a nature guide at a nature center or similar operation
  • Have experience in leadership
  • Have local knowledge and familiarity with the area
  • Have experience in communication via social media, layout, and/or image processing
  • Have completed first aid training in recent years.
  • Have a driver's license and access to a car
  • Speak another language

The County Administrative Board applies competence-based recruitment. As part of this, a work sample will be conducted during the interviews.

About the Position

The position is a seasonal employment with hourly compensation from March 1 or by agreement until November 30, 2026. The position averages about 60% of a full-time position. During the months of March, April, October, and November, the position encompasses about 50% working time of a full-time position. The work is scheduled and involves weekend work to a high extent with irregular working hours, except for the nature center's open season with hours approximately 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM.

The work is located at Naturum Stendörren in the Stendörren Nature Reserve. An agreement on remote work can be made during parts of the working hours.

All positions at the County Administrative Board may be subject to security clearance and military placement depending on the nature of the assignment.
