Description

We are looking for up to eight dedicated seasonal workers for the Water Unit where we work with water management, environmental goals, environmental monitoring, restoration of aquatic environments, invasive species, protection of aquatic environments, and fish management.

We work long-term with water care to restore habitats for aquatic animals and plants, thereby increasing biodiversity. Some positions are primarily focused on working with concrete measures to restore waterways that have been cleared of floating debris, while others mainly involve inventory and follow-up of implemented measures. There are often opportunities to try out various tasks. We offer meaningful and varied work that will contribute to water conservation efforts in the region.

Our operational management is characterized by good leadership and an approach that creates participation and engagement.

Tasks

Your tasks will primarily involve participating in field operations, but data entry and compilation of completed fieldwork may also be included. The position can range from six weeks to five months of employment. One or more of the following tasks may be relevant:

  • Plan and lead the work to restore waterways together with excavator operators with support from experienced staff at the County Administrative Board (coordinator)
  • Action inventory/bio mapping of waterways using digital tools
  • Manual restoration of waterways
  • Mussel inventory according to standardized methodology
  • Electric fishing inventory
  • Net fishing

All tasks are carried out together with one or more colleagues in work teams. The majority of fieldwork takes place in locations in the region outside of Falun municipality, and some tasks are performed at a distance from Falun that requires overnight stays in other locations. The extent of overnight stays may vary. Primarily, we work full-time with four-day weeks.

The work is occasionally physically demanding and involves walking and staying in unmarked terrain as well as wading in waterways.

Equipment such as protective gear, waders, and boots will be provided by the County Administrative Board during the inventories. The County Administrative Board is also responsible for training and introduction to the tasks. Please indicate in your application during which period you are available for seasonal work.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • You have experience moving in nature and the ability to work independently, make your own decisions, and solve problems that arise.
  • You must have good physical ability as the work requires walking in terrain, wading in running water, and carrying field equipment for a large part of the day.
  • You find it easy to collaborate and communicate in a clear and understandable manner.
  • You have a valid driver's license (B).

Meritorious

  • Scientific education with relevant orientation.
  • Experience in fieldwork related to the tasks included in the position.
  • Experience using digital tools such as Survey 123 or Field maps.
  • Knowledge in analyzing and evaluating waterways according to the new bio mapping methodology for hydromorphology (Jönköping 2017).

Personal qualities

  • You find it easy to collaborate and communicate clearly and have the ability to see the whole picture and continuously plan, evaluate, and ensure the quality of the work.
  • You are proactive, resourceful, can independently prioritize and take responsibility for your work.
  • You are interested in working with environmental conservation measures in water and learning new things.
  • You are flexible as tasks can quickly change.
  • We place great emphasis on your personal qualities and references.
