The Västmanland-Dalarna Environmental and Building Administration is a merger of the environmental and building administrations of Avesta, Fagersta, and Norberg. The joint administration, with Avesta as the host municipality, operates under a joint political committee with representation from all three municipalities. With units for Environment, Planning & Building, Mapping & Measurement, and Administration, the administration serves a region with just over 42,000 inhabitants.

The Environmental Unit currently consists of 20 employees, including the environmental manager. We work in teams based on our areas of expertise, collaborating and driving development both within teams and at the unit level. We are now looking for an environmental inspector with a strong interest in environmental issues and development work - could that be you?

The Environmental Unit is seeking a new employee for a position as an environmental inspector, primarily with tasks related to environmental protection or shoreline protection.

Job Description:

You will work together with our other qualified inspectors, mainly within the environmental protection team, to:

• plan and conduct inspections of environmentally hazardous activities within various subject areas under the Environmental Code, respond to referrals, handle notification cases, and investigate complaints.
• handle and investigate cases and conduct inspections based on legislation for compliance with shoreline protection.
• handle and investigate cases, draft service letters, and, by delegation from the Environmental and Building Committee, make independent decisions in cases that vary in scope and complexity.

Qualifications

You have an environmental inspector education and/or other higher education or experience that we consider equivalent. We are looking for someone with experience in governmental work within environmental protection or shoreline protection, with good knowledge of the Environmental Code and the Administrative Procedure Act. We also expect you to have good computer skills with a solid familiarity with systems and a positive attitude towards digital tools.

The position involves a lot of personal contact, so we place high demands on service and a good ability to express oneself verbally and in writing in Swedish. Since a large part of the work consists of inspections and visits performed independently, a B driver's license is required.

It is important that you have a good ability to independently plan and prioritize your time. Being able to meet our operators with respect and open dialogue while being clear about the applicable requirements is very valuable. It is a given for you to take your own initiatives and independently drive your areas forward. At the same time, you are a team player who appreciates collaboration and wants to contribute to the group's common results. It is desirable that you are flexible, have personal maturity, and take responsibility for your tasks.
