Art Technician at the Art Unit in Örebro
Do you want to contribute to making Örebro residents enjoy pleasant encounters with art in public spaces? We at the Art Unit are looking for an art technician to join our technician team. With us, you will have a varied job in a creative environment with wonderful colleagues!
About the position
Throughout Örebro, there is a large collection of 9,000 artworks located outdoors, in public spaces, and storage areas. These artworks require maintenance, and this is where you come in as a technician! Our artworks consist of many different materials and techniques, which leads to variation in the work but also demands your ability to handle a wide range. The work also involves construction techniques, anchoring, sustainability thinking, and cost-effectiveness. You will be part of the Art Unit's technician team, where at least three people will be on-site during the summer. Your main focus will be on permanent public art, but together you will support the unit's various assignments as needed, such as during the implementation of the OpenArt exhibition.
Examples of tasks:
- perform and report tasks based on planning from the public art and OpenArt team
- transport artworks
- carry out art installations and construction projects
- perform maintenance, cleaning, repairs, operations, and service of artworks and the unit's premises
- procurement, ordering, and follow-up of goods and services
- inventory, troubleshoot, and update maintenance plans for artworks.
- conduct risk analysis and inspections for a good working environment, safe environments, and art handling
- individual and team work, as well as possible assignments to lead temporary staff
About the workplace
The Art Unit has overall responsibility for Örebro Municipality's art assignments by exhibiting contemporary art at Örebro Art Hall, showing contemporary art in public spaces every other year through the OpenArt biennial, and managing the municipal art collection. We also project manage new artistic designs throughout the municipality through the one percent rule. The Art Unit operates within the field of Nature and Cultural Life on behalf of the Culture and Leisure Administration. As a technician for public art, you will work based at Örebro Art Hall in the Cultural Quarter.

Qualifications
You who are applying for the role of art technician have a strong and genuine interest in art and problem-solving. You are unpretentious, responsible, and proactive. You find it easy to collaborate and have a good ability to quickly switch between different types of matters and tasks. To succeed in the role, you are a communicative team player, who through attentiveness and a solution-focused approach, has the ability to independently carry projects to completion. The position requires good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written, to communicate with colleagues and others, as well as to document what the operation requires.
We place great emphasis on personal suitability.
Requirements:
- post-secondary education in a relevant field, such as art/craft education or experience deemed equivalent by the employer
- experience or equivalent in maintenance, repair, and production of artworks
- familiarity with using construction and craft machinery
- good material knowledge in artistic materials focusing on wood, stone, and metals
- good experience handling art objects or equivalent
- driver's license B manual transmission
- experience using Microsoft Office programs
Meritorious:
- experience in artistic work
- good local knowledge of Örebro Municipality
- other licenses beyond B (e.g., truck)
- good welding skills (mainly in bronze)
- relevant training such as: lift certificate, forklift certificate, fall protection training, high-altitude training, scaffolding qualification, hot work
