Much of the goods that arrive or depart by boat in Gävle are transported by rail to and from the port. ProTrain has the assignment from Gävle Port to manage the rail traffic in the port area.

Job Responsibilities

We are now looking for an additional employee for the shunting of railway wagons, which involves both driving the locomotives and attaching/detaching wagons.

The shunting work in the port involves, in short, receiving incoming trains, shunting down wagons to the various terminals, and in the next step, shunting them up to the departure tracks again to hand them over to the respective railway companies. The work is led and coordinated locally. If you are a train driver, there is also the opportunity to occasionally drive freight to cover vacancies or to maintain your skills.

The work is done in shifts, and the position is based in Gävle.

The position includes regular weekend work. The work is performed outdoors, all year round, and requires good physical fitness as you walk a lot and lift couplings.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with experience in shunting and a valid driving license, or who comes from the train driver profession/train driver education.

If you are a qualified train driver, you will primarily work on a schedule as a shunter, but occasionally drive freight to cover vacancies or maintain your skills.

The position requires that you can communicate in Swedish, both spoken and written, at a good level. We expect you to be a person who prioritizes safety and can work both independently and in a team.

We have a team of well-trained employees and can strengthen an organization with train drivers, supervisors (TSM), and shunters/yard personnel for the entire traffic setup. We currently staff both freight and passenger traffic for both large and small railway operators. ProTrain also performs competitive, efficient, and customer-oriented shunting in Gothenburg Port and Gävle Port.

With roots in the former SJ school in Mjölby, we have trained train drivers since 1977. We now offer basic training for train drivers in several locations in Sweden.
