Mälardalstrafik is the small company with the big mission: to contribute to a cohesive and sustainable transport system in a growing Stockholm-Mälardalen region.

We are jointly owned by the regions of Stockholm, Sörmland, Uppsala, Västmanland, Örebro County, and Östergötland, and we are responsible for both Mälartåg and Movingo.

We work to make it easy and attractive to travel by public transport in the Stockholm-Mälar region. This is crucial for everyone commuting to work and studies, for a strong business community, vibrant educational institutions, and a growing tourism sector. Traffic with Mälartåg includes five regional train lines with over 15 million journeys per year and around 20-22 million journeys per year in our cohesive transport system.

In recent years, the company has grown with an expanded mission in responsibility, turnover, and the number of employees. With the customer in focus, the assignment places high demands on efficient management and our ability to develop operations to meet future needs for sustainable travel. We are a commissioning organization with competent and qualified specialists in various fields. Our operations are divided into three departments. You will belong to the department that focuses on traffic, infrastructure, and customer offerings.

The Assignment

As a strategist with main responsibility for traffic planning, you have a key role in driving, developing, and coordinating the traffic planning process for Mälardalstrafik. The role focuses on strategic and tactical work, but also includes tasks of a more operational nature. An important success factor is your ability to create a proactive and continuous dialogue and collaboration internally within the company, with our owners, with transport companies, the Swedish Transport Administration, and other partners. Internally within the company, you will work closely with both colleagues in your department and other departments, especially with our traffic planner.

You are responsible for ensuring that traffic planning and its associated traffic planning processes are conducted in accordance with established plans and goals, and that the traffic supply develops in line with the needs of travelers, the conditions of the infrastructure, and the long-term development of the region. The work involves leading and coordinating the process from strategic planning to implementation, including responsibility for program planning of the traffic supply, developing disruption plans, and reviewing and managing ongoing communications from the Swedish Transport Administration.

The role also includes conducting cost calculations for traffic changes, contract management, following developments in legislation and regulations, and contributing with analyses and decision-making support to management, forums, and budget work. You will participate as a project or sub-project manager in internal and external development projects and act as a requirement setter and expert in traffic development. Handling and responding to consultations in the area is also part of the assignment.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with a relevant academic background, such as in traffic or transport planning, urban planning, logistics, or a related field. You have several years of experience in traffic planning, preferably with a focus on railways, and have a good understanding of how traffic plans interact with infrastructure, capacity, and agreements. Experience working closely with the Swedish Transport Administration is an advantage, as is knowledge of processes and tools for planning public transport.

As a person, you are analytical, structured, and solution-oriented. You have a holistic view of the transport system and a good ability to balance strategic goals with practical conditions. You thrive in a role with many contact surfaces and take the initiative to collaborate to achieve common results. Your communication skills and interest in societal development make you a natural representative for Mälardalstrafik in both internal and external contexts.
