We are looking for a Head of Visitor Attractions
Do you want to be part of developing Örebro County Museum's visitor attractions? We have permanent locations in several places in the county and tour with the Mobile Museum. In Örebro, we are making a major investment – in 2027 we will open the renovated and operationally adapted county museum building.
Are you a practical and development-oriented person with an interest in art and cultural heritage and interaction with visitors? Then this is an opportunity for you.
Are you the one we are looking for?
You enjoy collaborating broadly with colleagues from different disciplines and can be both receptive and proactive. You can manage multiple activities simultaneously. You express yourself well in speech and writing and have good analytical skills. You are used to representing an organization in public contexts and ideally have a broad network in the county.
As a person, you are social and network-building, as well as unpretentious and open to creative solutions. You are both organized and flexible. You can engage in both everyday practical issues and in the development of visitor attractions, including complementary funding opportunities and collaborations. You enthusiastically drive strategic issues and development work.
You have previously held a managerial position. We prefer that you have worked in the private sector, for example with visitor attractions or tourism.
About the County Museum
Örebro County Museum is an important institution for the cultural life of the county and the city of Örebro. The museum and its various visitor attractions should be accessible and relevant for the county's residents and for tourists. We aim to highlight and renew the relationship between people and the past to increase the opportunity for participation in today's societal development. The museum works with several fundamental themes such as the perception of knowledge, how we create our communities, and cultural sustainability.
Our ambition is for the exhibitions in our reopened county museum building to be thematically interconnected. The building has significant architectural values that should be utilized in the exhibition halls. With the new exhibitions, we want visitors to be touched, to take away an experience of beauty, and to have an overall impression that is more than the individual parts.
We have branches/properties in Lindesberg, Nora, Karlskoga, and Askersund. They have their own stories as well as stories linked to the exhibitions in the county museum building.
About the position
We are now looking for a head of unit who, in collaboration with the museum's management team, wants to be responsible for the visitors' experiences in practice – both continuing to drive ongoing operations/visitor attractions and building up and developing the visitor experience in the county museum building in Örebro at the opening in 2027.
The head of unit will build a new unit that complements and collaborates with the other units. Initially, the staff will consist of a couple of positions, but the new manager will have the opportunity to recruit staff, including for reception, shop, and catering operations.
The operation of the county museum building in Örebro is managed by the property owner, Region Örebro County, but the position includes learning to understand the building's climate, safety, and accessibility issues, including light and sound, together with the staff. This is to become a good partner in a fact-based dialogue about measures. Furthermore, the position includes responsibility for the county museum's property issues in general.
The position includes responsibility for opening hours at the facilities outside Örebro city.
Parts of the operations will be revenue-funded.
Requirements
University degree or equivalent education assessed by the employer.
Good knowledge of economics and solid experience in budget and result responsibility.
Several years of managerial experience.
Driver's license B.
Meritorious
Experience working in the private sector.
Led operations at visitor attractions.
Experience in broadening funding and collaborations with businesses and others.
Application
The application deadline is March 1, 2026.
About the employment
With us, you will receive secure employment conditions, collective agreement benefits, and an inclusive work environment with great engagement and competence.
We offer a permanent full-time position. Start date in the summer of 2026. The work requires a high degree of physical presence at the county museum's properties.
We apply a probationary period. An application to Örebro County Museum is a public document.
We strive for an even distribution of women and men and welcome increased diversity in ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
